Time flies…  This year’s Baby Tattooville (see our 2009 and 2010 coverage) is creeping up on us and will go down the weekend of October 7-9. Scheduled as a reunion of sorts, much of the alumni will be returning so those attending will be surrounded by an even larger contingent of artists. As of now, Amy Sol, Anthony Ausgang, Gris Grimly, Elizabeth McGrath, Johnny Ryden, KRK Ryden, Brandi Milne, Miss Mindy, Luke Chueh, Travis Louie, Van Arno, Tara McPherson, Buff Monster, KMNDZ, James Gurney, Bob Dob, and […]

Openings: Damon Soule – “Then What Happened” @ FFDG

Saturday evening saw the opening of Damon Soule’s latest show, Then What Happened at Fecal Face Dot Gallery (previewed). The show featured a series of paintings in a variety of sizes that visually expressed the scientific aspects of Time (such as wave collapse and special relativity) and using it as a base to build upon. Also on display is an installation piece, which is an alter dedicated to the Greek god, Chronos who represents the personification of time. Check out additional pics of the artist’s […]

Studio Visit / Preview: Cyrcle – “We Never Die” @ Design Matters

Last week, AM paid a visit to the studio of the street art collective known as Cyrcle. Combining their different backgrounds which blend graffiti, fine art and design, the trio will debut their first solo exhibition this coming Thursday over at Design Matters located in West Hollywood. Titled We Never Die, the exhibit will explore the group’s fascination with Classic Romanticism and delve into concepts of death, life, and the gray areas in between. Although the artistic ensemble has been known for their wheat paste […]

Streets: Ron English (Detroit)

Ron English (featured) started his road trip to Detroit recently, looking to bring some of his art to the city including apparently a hand painted “grin balloon.” Along with some walls and billboards plastered with his “popaganda” imagery at the imfamous Packard Plant location, he also raised his profile in the motor city with something inflatable that could be seen from a distance. More photos after the jump…

Streets: ROA (Copenhagen)

After recent visits by Shepard Fairey (covered) and COPE2 (covered), another artist heads over to make his mark in Copenhagen – ROA.  The Belgium-based artist was in town for the Galore Festival taking place in the the cultural zone of Toftegårds place in Valby. For his part, the prolific street artist decided to wrap what looks like a scaled serpent painted in his distinctive anatomic style around a tower. After this, he’ll probably be heading to Vienna soon for his solo opening there on the […]

Teaser: Tim Biskup – “Former State” @ THIS Gallery

Coming up on October 14th, Tim Biskup will be back in Los Angeles for a solo show at THIS Gallery featuring new paintings and sculptures. Focusing on other projects, we haven’t seen many exhibitions from the Biskup as of late with the last show in LA being at De La Barracuda in 2009 (not counting his installation at The Standard Hollywood). For those interested, he has also launched a new website. Discuss Tim Biskup here.

Openings: REVOK, RIME, and ROID – “Perseverance” @ Known Gallery

This past weekend, the Known Gallery unveiled the exhibition titled Perseverance featuring the works of REVOK, RIME, and ROID. As it had been documented, the trio had been spending time in Detroit in preparation for this show and the final pit stop in Los Angeles was nothing less than impressive. As soon as one entered the gallery space, it was clear that each artist brought their best effort to the table. Rime’s style continues to evolve as his latest artwork shows his familiar characters and […]

Tracey Emin’s Work Installed In UK’s Governmental Headquarters

10 Downing Street, or known by people in the UK as Number 10, the governmental headquarters recently had one of Tracey Emin’s signature neon signs installed. Intended as a gift (to the Government Art Collection) and a suggestion, the piece was placed in the Terracotta Room by order of the Prime Minister David Cameron, who is the fan of the often provocative YBA’s work.  On a related note, if you live near London, you can still catch her major retrospective at the Hayward Gallery through […]

Studio Visits: David Shillinglaw

Studio visits are probably the most enjoyable things that we get to do here at AM. A little time to talk with the artist about their work, and also a chance to soak up the environment in which the work is created. David Shillinglaw’s environment is a pretty special one. His North London home and studio is situated at the top of an old brick-built warehouse / factory building and the huge loft offers more work and play space than any of the studios than […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey, D*Face, and Logan Hicks for T&J Art Walk (Oslo) Part II

After mentioning Faile’s (featured) wall for the T&J Art Walk (and the fun they had with a ping pong table) earlier in the month in an Overtime article, we thought it was time for an update. The event in Oslo was put on in  support of the Human Rights Watch (HRW) and to allow memorial murals honoring the victims of the horrific terror attack of July 22. This will all culminate with an art show with proceeds to benefit the HRW (but you can also donate here). You can […]
