Video: Highlights from “Suggestivism” @ GCAC

With a show filled with such plethora of strong and iconic works from an A-list of artists, Suggestivism definitely deserves a second look. If our coverage of the opening didn’t encourage you to see the exhibition in person, perhaps this video from Hurley featuring some footage of the art as well as an interview with curator and artist Nathan Spoor will convince you to head over to the Grand Central Art Center before April 17th, the close date. Streets: Kid Acne – ‘Art Fags’ & Ema – ‘Dropmen’ (Paris)

One of our favourite things we’ve seen on the streets over the last few months have been Kid Acne’s Art Fags. Acne has frequently brightened the day with his playful creations, but this huge street art in-joke makes us smile everytime we come across one. KA has been on a pasting spree on the streets of Paris, along with partner in crime Ema – who has getting busy dropping her Dropmen alongside the looseys. Perhaps we will see some more action from Kid Acne in […]

Teaser: Marcel Dzama – “Behind Every Curtain” @ David Zwirner

Opening tomorrow at Chelsea’s David Zwirner is the latest solo show by Marcel Dzama, entitled Behind Every Curtain. The exhibition will feature the artist’s film, A Game of Chess, alongside related drawings, sculptures and dioramas. As the name suggests, the movie is based on the classic strategy board game, with Dzama’s fantastic characters dressed in chess piece-themed costumes and masks, battling to the death on top of a checkered board. A new catalog of artwork and film and production stills will be released to accompany […]

Openings: ‘Printmaking Today / ROA Installation’ @ Black Rat Projects

AM had to cut our evening in London short this Thursday due to problems with the trains, so unfortunately missed our VNA friends’ new issue launch, but we did manage to get to Black Rat Projects’ Printmaking Today show. In addition to their great looking and very large multiple layered edition from Swoon (interviewed), BRP also presented a series of secondary market editioned works from such contemporary artists as Peter Blake, Tracy Emin, Grayson Perry, Peter Doig and Damien Hirst as well as editioned work […]

POW WOW ’11 / Interview: Jeff Hamada (Booooooom)

Mr. Booooooom (that’s seven o’s), Jeff Hamada, will be one of the artists joining the POW WOW crew as they get together for their live painting today. Although you may be more familiar with his website Booooooom, known for introducing new artists as well as their interactive projects with their readers (ie: the Little Drifters – project), Jeff is also an artist himself.  We learn a little more about him in the interview after the jump…

POW WOW ’11 / Interview: 123Klan

Some other participants in this year’s POW WOW will be Scien and Klor, repping the 123Klan from Montreal. Initially formed as a graffiti crew 20 years ago, the klan has branched out to branding, creation of logos, character design, illustration and typefaces, all the while staying true to their first love – graffiti. Take a look after the jump as we sit down with the husband and wife duo for a short interview.

Streets: Banksy (Los Angeles) Part II

As we suspected, Banksy was not done with his initial “Crayon Shooter” stencil in West LA. Looks like another piece has been discovered showing he’s a fan of Charlie Brown on the side of an abandoned fire-damaged building.  We wonder how many he has planned as we lead up to the Oscars.  Take a look at another video from Foreman of the initial piece after the jump…

Streets: Banksy (Los Angeles)

As our readers must know by now, Banksy’s film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” has been nominated for an Oscar.  Although it doesn’t appear that he will be allowed to personally accept the award if he wins, it looks like he made the trip out to Los Angeles just the same.  Take a look at this new piece that has popped up reportedly attributed to the elusive street artist.  Perhaps the start of his Oscar campaign with more to come?
