Benefits: NY4PR Auction

Tomorrow night (November 2nd) in New York, there will be an art auction and benefit for the victims of Hurricane Maria (proceeds go to the Hispanic Federation’s disaster relief fund: Unidos). NY4PR (New York for Puerto Rico) will be held at Think!Chinatown x ChaShaMa space (384 Broadway) from 6-9pm and feature contributions from a wide range of artists (see list below). Events: Banksy – “Balfour ‘Apology Party'” @ The Walled Off Hotel (Bethlehem, Palestine)

Earlier today Banksy set up a street tea party in front of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, Palestine (covered), “celebrating” tomorrow’s 100 years anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. The infamous artist already addressed the important role of Great Britain in the ongoing Middle East conflict at the hotel’s museum, and couldn’t miss an opportunity to remind the world about it on this big day. On November 4th Thinkspace gallery in LA will be opening Human (Nature), the first solo exhibition and full gallery takeover by internationally acclaimed Iranian artist-activist duo, Icy and Sot. For this landmark showcase the artists produced all new body of work varying in medium, techniques and aesthetics used, all focused on celebrating nature and human dependence on it. Releases: Pixel Pancho “‘Orangutan” screenprint

Continuing the ongoing efforts of the Splash and Burn campaign initiated by Ernest Zacharevic earlier this year (covered), Pixel Pancho just announced a new print release that will further help their efforts. Based after his sculptural works created for the project  on location in Sumatra, Orangutan is depicting steam punk-like creature that’s been overgrown with lush flora. Upcoming: Shepard Fairey – “Damaged” @ Library Street Collective (LA Popup)

Coming up on November 11th, Library Street Collective will be transforming an industrial space in Los Angeles for Shepard Fairey (featured) to host his first large-scale show in his hometown in nearly 10 years. Billed as his largest ever solo, Damaged will feature over 200 works and takes it’s name from Black Flag’s 1981 album. Releases: Von – “Skull 03” Print

Available thru October 31st, Skull 03 is a new print from Von (interviewed) that sees him utilizing some new drawing techniques that he’s been developing over the past few months. Previews: Jacky Tsai – “The Lost Angels” @ Corey Helford Gallery

The Lost Angels, a solo from Jacky Tsai, will be opening this Saturday (October 28th) at the Corey Helford Gallery in downtown Los Angeles. The exhibition will feature the Chinese artist’s work with lacquer, porcelain, mixed media painting and print, all featuring imagery that deals with East meets West themes and ideas. Seen here are pieces from his fantastic Superheroes series where we see various comic book characters placed in classic Chinese scenes, leading to a unexpected juxtaposition of worlds.

Streets: Smug (Stavanger, Norway)

A few days after Nuart Festival officially closed their 2017 indoor show (covered), they wrapped up another successful mural project. Teaming up with Smug, Attende AS and students from Kannik Middle School, they produced their inaugural mural for the new Social Inclusion Through Street Art project. Attende AS employs approximately 330 people with disabilities who would otherwise exist without a meaningful work life.
