Basel Week Switzerland ’10: Scope Fair

Part of the fun of going to the big art fairs like Art Basel is also going to all the satellite fairs, and one of our favorites is always Scope. Like in Miami and NYC, Scope Basel gave us a chance to see emerging and mid-career artists that are generally not represented at the main fair. Check out our images from Scope Basel, after the jump.

Preview: “Summer Group Show” @ StolenSpace Gallery

StolenSpace Gallery in London is hosting their annual summer group show tonight. As usual, the roster features some stalwarts from their stable of artists as well as mixing in some new talent. One of the pieces we look forward to checking out ourselves is “Rocketeers” from Chloe Early (interviewed). If this incredible painting is any indication, we are in for a treat when her next solo opens in October at the Corey Helford Gallery. More selected preview images from the group show which also includes […]

Contest: Dan May – “Echoes of Existence” Print

A show definitely worth checking out that is currently showing at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is Dan May’s (interviewed) new body of work – “Into the Wild”. We last saw his incredibly detailed paintings of gentle creatures and humanoids at the Rotofugi Gallery several months ago. Dan has kindly sent over an AP print of his “Echoes of Existence” painting to give away to one of our lucky readers.  Just leave a comment guessing how many hours it took to complete the actual painting […]

Streets: Faile

It looks like Faile (featured) has been getting back to their roots and getting up around New York after finishing their latest project – moving the Faile/Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade to the Big Apple (covered). By the way, if you haven’t had a chance to play with the custom arcade games designed by the artists as part of that epic install, check out this video footage from Dante Ross. For a closer look the the gender bending piece above, look after the jump, but for […]

Make sure you stop by to check out the show for yourself as this is the last week it will be up. Questions and answers after the jump…

Preview: Emma Tooth – “Extraordinary Portraits of Ordinary People” @ Derby Museum & Art Gallery

This Friday, July 2nd, sees Emma Tooth’s debut museum showing open at Derby Museum and Art Gallery in an artistic showdown 250 years in the making!. Emma Tooth vs. Joseph Wright of Derby come together in “Extraordinary Portraits of Ordinary People”. AM thinks that Emma may have the edge over Joseph, with him being deceased and all, but we look forward to this bout featuring the two Derbyshire based painters. Emma’s Consilium Plebis paintings will be exhibited alongside the 18th Century painter’s work from the Museum’s […]

Streets: Banksy @ Glastonbury 2010

Glastonbury, the largest open-air music and performing arts festival in the world, opened last week in the UK. Along with a long and diverse list of music acts like the Pet Shop Boys, Snoop Dogg, Shakira, Norah Jones, Gorillaz, Mos Def, Stevie Wonder and Willie Nelson among many others, artists well known to us were on hand to throw up pieces all around the venue. One of these was none other than Banksy with this piece on the perimeter. More images after the jump…

Art Basel Switzerland 2010 – Part 2

As promised, we continue our coverage of Art Basel Switzerland 2010 by bringing you images of the contemporary works in the fair. Of course, almost all of today’s leading artists were represented at the show, making it literally a who’s who of the contemporary art scene. As with fairs in the recent past, Ed Ruscha seemed to be very hot, with his significant pop-text pieces popping up at several booths. Another artist that was perhaps even more highly visible at the show was American painter […]
