Openings: AJ Fosik – “Lamplighter to the Promised Land” @ Guerrero Gallery

Last weekend, AM stopped by San Francisco’s Guerrero Gallery to check out opening of Lamplighter to the Promised Land that features AJ Fosik’s latest wooden sculptures. We visited Fosik a few weeks back at his Portland studio while he was preparing for the show (which can be viewed here). With this exhibition, he created sculptures to portray creatures in a glorified manner that challenges the concept of belief as a virtue – in other words, they are trippy/bad-ass beasts. Check out more photos from the […]

Studio Visits: AJ Fosik

AJ Fosik’s sculptural artworks almost need no introduction. In a world where it is increasingly difficult to have a true individual voice as an artist, Fosik’s work has an original aesthetic honed over the years from his roots in graffiti, street art and two-dimensional drawing. AJ decided that his imagery would be better represented in three dimensions around seven years ago, and has continued to immerse himself in the medium of handcrafted woodwork for his iconography inspired art ever since. Using modern woodworking techniques (he doesn’t consider himself […]

Installations by […]

Now, the series of work produced for the Noteworthy Project will be auctioned off to benefit Peace First at a […]

Openings: AJ Fosik – “Time Kills All Gods” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Opening along side Josh Keyes at Jonathan Levine was sculptural artist AJ Fosik. The show entitled Time Kills All Gods is a tour de force as AJ brings the hammer with this latest endeavor. We’ve long been impressed at his creative wood and metal workings that depict unique animals, but this time he ups the ante with a serious boost of imaginative mythical creatures while tackling the ideas of religion and the worship of false idols. More photos after the jump…

The video above which shows him putting together the piece seen on the new Mastodon album should satisfy some of the curious Fosik fans out there. For those in New York, look for a solo from the Portland-based artist at Jonathan LeVine Galley at the end of October. Take a look at the album cover after the jump…
