Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Jeff Soto x Jonathan Levine Gallery

Riverside native Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be one of the featured artists with Jonathan Levine Gallery this year at the SCOPE satellite fair. No stranger to Art Basel Week, Soto will be participating in multiple projects and exhibitions (more later), but probably will have the most work dedicated to this mini-show. Expect to see his usual acrylic on wood works and also his continued explorations into watercolor as you can see by “Rock Pile I” (above). More preview images via Soto’s blog after the jump…

After it’s start in France in July, “Stages” will make its final stop before the paintings going to the homes of collectors (purchased to benefit LIVESTRONG). The exhibition will be on location at this year’s Art Basel Miami at O.H.W.O.W. Deitch Projects has assembled an astounding roster of artists – including Aiko, Shepard Fairey (featured), Barry McGee, Os Gemeos and Swoon (interviewed) – to participate in its Art Basel Miami ’09 Wynwood Walls project. According to the press release, a major property owners in Miami’s Wynwood art district has made available a group of walls and buildings on which the artists can create murals. After having been featured by Team Gallery at Art Basel Switzerland, the gallery is bringing Ryan McGinley’s newest works to Art Basel Miami. The photographs being shown at the fair continues his Moonmilk series (remember his show at Alison Jacques Gallery?) and also includes some images from his most recent road trip.
