After it’s start in France in July, “Stages” will make its final stop before the paintings going to the homes of collectors (purchased to benefit LIVESTRONG). The exhibition will be on location at this year’s Art Basel Miami at O.H.W.O.W. Gallery (Dec 4 – Dec 6) and like the show’s recent stop in NY, several artists were added to the traveling exhibition – this time, the Clayton Brothers (featured), Erik Parker, and Tomoo Gokita (currently showing at Honor Fraser). Take a look at the Parker […]

After having been featured by Team Gallery at Art Basel Switzerland, the gallery is bringing Ryan McGinley’s newest works to Art Basel Miami. The photographs being shown at the fair continues his Moonmilk series (remember his show at Alison Jacques Gallery?) and also includes some images from his most recent road trip. The settings involve locations deep beneath the earth’s surface and now some on or above it. They integrate the nude body into scenes of nature, almost blending them into one. More images and […]
Chris Berens fans attending Art Basel are in for a treat his year as Sloan Fine Art will feature several pieces from him in their booth at SCOPE as a preview to his big New York show opening at their gallery on December 16th. Berens’ soft focus and imaginative work is a result of a unique and time-consuming process and are often homages to the Dutch master painters of yore. We have become increasingly enamored with his work after recent shows in Seattle and Amsterdam […]
Art Basel Miami is just around the corner and AM is excited to be providing on-site coverage of the biggest stateside art fair of the year (just like we did last year). In the next couple weeks, you’ll see more previews leading up to Basel, but we will start things off with telling you about New Image Art and their focus on Judith Supine this year. They will be bringing multiple pieces from the collage master to SCOPE (one of the satellite fairs), and we can’t wait […]
Another great video walkthrough by Vernissage TV from Art Basel Switzerland. If you can get past the videographer’s apparent shoe fetish, you will be able to get a good idea of the atmosphere as well as see some glimpses of the artwork. For more photos check out our previous post. Mark Flood is a Texan who produces work that mocks popular American culture and the contemporary art world. His signs on cardboard poke fun at the prestige that culture places on paintings, with such messages as “Another Painting” or “25 More Paintings.” His collages of mutated celebrity portraits challenge people’s perceptions of their relationship with “celebrity” – are you interested in the person themselves or their image as depicted in the poster? How is the feedback to your head affected when that picture is tweaked? […]
Kicking off our coverage of Art Basel Switzerland, we take a look at the work of Ryan McGinley, quite simply one of the best photographers of his generation and a name you should know and keep an eye out for. His credentials and accolades are impressive and numerous, including being the youngest artist ever to have a solo show at the Whitney (2003), being named Photographer of the Year in 2003 by American Photo Magazine and capturing the Young Photographer Infinity Award by the International Center […]
Like last year, LA’s New Image Art will be down in Miami to participate in the Aqua Hotel fair. The intimate and accessible setting of a hotel room is a great place to chat art with the gallery’s knowledgeable owner, Marsea Goldberg, and to peruse works by her impressive roster of artists. This year, New Image will be showing Bast, Kelsey Brookes, The Date Farmers, Judith Supine, Anthony Lister, Neckface, Swoon and Deanna Templeton, among others. See preview images of pieces that Marsea will be […]
Talented Brooklyn-based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama, AKA Matzu, combines Western urban art and graphic design within a tradition Japanese art historical context, creating an amalgam that is beautiful and unique.
