Showing: Barry McGee @ The Pasadena Armory Center for the Arts

Barry McGee has been busy this month.  Not only was he in France for his massive install at the Biennale de Lyon and opening a solo show in Rome at Galleria Alessandra Bonomo, Mr. Pimple also found time to participate in the anniversary show at the Pasadena Armory.   The Armory commissioned 20 artists to celebrate its 20 years of exhibition history with installations both inside the Armory and at different sites in Pasadena. Openings: Barry McGee @ Biennale de Lyon

Barry McGee’s participation in the annual Biennale de Lyon was cause for excitement in the AM offices, especially after seeing some video footage.  Some photos surfaced this morning of the opening of the immersive installation Mr. Twist graced the French with (consisting of some new and old elements).  Looks like McGee went all out with tagged overturned vans, paintings, classic patterned pieces, just an overall aweseom exhibit. Teaser: “The Thousands” Group Exhibition @ Village Underground

Compile a list of the most important international street artists historically and contemporaneously and chances are, the names you have chosen are included in “The Thousands,” the most expansive street art exhibition to hit London this year. The show has been organized by AM’s friend RJ of Vandalog and aims to celebrate the achievements of street artists around the world and aid in solidifying their rightful place in art history. Openings: “Celeritas” @ SURU

The motorcycle culture themed “Celeritas” show (previewed) and silent auction held last weekend at SURU in Los Angeles was a huge success, raising $66,000 for Riders for Health, a non-profit that funds the transportation of medical personnel to remote communities in Africa. The centerpiece of the show was a 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa customized by Barry McGee coupled with a mannequin draped in styling Darren Romanelli fashioned motorcycle leathers. Close-Up: Lance Armstrong’s “Stages” Trek Art Bikes

This past weekend we previewed the work from “Stages,” (announcement video) the collaborative art project between Lance Armstrong and Nike Sportswear opening tomorrow at Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin. Openings: “Get Rich Quick!” Group Exhibition @ Carmichael Gallery

Last night, the Carmichael Gallery in Hollywood pulled no punches with their all-star show, “Get Rich Quick!,” showcasing the strongest talents in the street and urban art genre. Some scorching hot pieces lined the gallery’s walls for the exhibition, including: a rare Banksy canvas, a KAWS ad disruption, boxes and screen-printed collages from Faile, to originals by Barry McGee and Micallef and much more.
