Openings: Camille Rose Garcia @ Michael Kohn Gallery

Last night, the Michael Kohn Gallery hosted a special signing and show from Los Angeles-based painter Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed). Presenting a new collections of paintings from her illustrated version of one of her favorite books, Snow White, Garcia was able to successfully transform the perceptions of the mainstream audience of another famous fairy tale (also see Alice in the Wonderland) to perhaps a more accurate and darker place that is seen in the classic novel from the Brothers Grimm. You can purchase her new […]

Showing: Camille Rose Garcia – “Snow White and the Black Lagoon” @ Michael Kohn Gallery

Camille Rose Garcia took aim at another fairytale a couple weekends ago at Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles with a new body of work based on Snow White, but instead of the seven dwarfs, she brought the whole story into the black lagoon. Like her Alice in Wonderland themed show last year, Camille blended imagery that was consistent in both her repertoire and the well-known tale like apples, poisons, and strange creatures culminating in a fantastic series of new paintings and drawings. More photos […]

Camille Rose Garcia’s new series of paintings, Snow White and the Black Lagoon opens this Saturday at Michael Kohn Gallery. Following her latest project, The Illustrated Alice and Wonderland, the series is based on the Grimm’s fairy tale, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” which serves as an allegory of our current relationship with the natural world, and the “fairy tales” that are told to veil our role in its demise. Florescent colors, seductive black lines, and luminous gold leaf illustrate this dark fairy tale-fantasy. […]

Another treat was a separate showcase where Kohn displayed a series of new works from  Mark Ryden. Check it all out after the jump.

In a clever curatorial touch, Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) will be showing a new selection of her phosphorescent work alongside Ryan McGinness’ Blacklight series (teased), both sharing uniquely psychedelic color palettes in stylistically disparate ways, with Michael Kohn Gallery during Art Basel South Beach. Raised on a healthy dose of Disneyland, the Southern Californian artist is known for her colorful reinterpretations of the whimsical narratives inherent to childhood fairy tales, yet executed with playfully sinister overtones. In the Spring, she even had the honor of […]

AM is looking forward to seeing the new body of work with CRG’s signature twist. Discuss Camille Rose Garcia […]
