In anticipation of Camille Rose Garcia’s upcoming exhibition and book signing at Merry Karnowsky Gallery this weekend March 6th, we talked to the artist a little bit about her work on the “Alice in Wonderland” book that was released last month among other things.  If you can’t make this signing, she’ll also be in Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. Our little art world celebrated one of its brightest stars last night when Camille Rose Garcia opened her show “The Hydra of Babylon” (setup) at Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Fans, collectors, artists and well-wishers turned out in droves to take in the Los Angeles based surrealist artist’s paintings, embellished drawings, murals, plushes and some nice little jar pieces. Update: Camille Rose Garcia – “The Hydra of Babylon” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

Merry Karnowsky Gallery has just released an image from Camille Rose Garcia’s upcoming show that we first told you about here.  This painting which shares the same name as the title of exhibition, “The Hydra of Babylon,” measures an enormous 60″ x 84″ and depicts a Greek hydra (a nine-headed serpent) struggling underwater with an eagle.  This painting is definitely representative of the imagery for this show described as “animal symbolism borrowed from Greek mythology and inspired by intricate islamic patterning.” The show opens September […]
