On October 1st, Roq La Rue opened it’s doors to a cavalcade of new works. Casey Weldon (featured) was welcomed back to the gallery for Hastemaker, where he continues to explore putting real people in surreal situations. Jeff Jacobson’s first solo show at Roq la Rue, titled Aphotic Ilk, explores a world between worlds. The dimension shifted vision gives bioluminescence to several species as they explore the ether. And, Samantha Wall continues her series of ink, pigment, and charcoal portraits in Let Your Eyes Adjust to the […]

Previews: Casey Weldon – “Hastemaker” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight (October 1st) in Seattle, Casey Weldon (featured) will be presenting some new works at Roq La Rue collectively entitled Hastemaker. The surreal new paintings are rendered with a bright hyperchromatic palette, something the locally-based artist is known for, giving them almost a supernatural glow. This choice of illumination matches well with his cinematic narrative, giving the pieces an almost mystical quality. Discuss Casey Weldon here.

He further explains the new body of work – “I think on one hand, the color palette I work with has been gradually getting darker, and I was getting really into recreating the glowing and reflecting colors of bright lights. The subject matter has been […]

Openings: “One Page” @ Roq La Rue

It seems strange to write about a show that one curated, so I’ll just give a little history about how the show came together, and let the photos speak for themselves. A few years ago Ryan Heshka had a solo show at Roq La Rue which included a couple pieces that were sequential stories and presented as stand-alone comics. They fascinated me and I wondered what a full show, with an assortment of artists might be like. The planning began and a date was chosen […]
