This weekend, our friends at Brooklyn Street Art will be presenting the inaugural show from their series Vandals or Visionaries where they invite a street artist to co-curate an exhibition at Gallery Brooklyn. Openings: Urban Legends @ L.A. Mart Design Center

Last weekend at the L.A. Mart Design Center, the Urban Legends auction and exhibition opened their doors to the public. With a series of largescale pieces, murals, photographs, and installations, artists around the world like Chor Boogie, Kofie, Mear One, Shark Toof, Cern, Estria, Martha Cooper, Sand One, Herakut, SANER, Estevan Oriol, Eriberto Oriol, Chaz Bojorquez, RETNA, Andrew Hem, and more were invited to put their work on display. Teaser: POW WOW 2012 (Hawaii)

In a couple weeks, the AM crew will be heading over Hawaii to this year’s POW WOW. Curated by Jasper Wong and hosted by Loft In Space / Fresh Cafe in Oahu, the art retreat will feature a extensive lineup of artists painting the surrounding industrial district of Kaka’ako. Following-up on Hueless (covered), which consisted of all black and white art, Chelsea’s Mallick Williams & Co. recently opened a new exhibition entitled Spectrum, which is aptly named not only because of its array of vibrantly colorful works, but also because the group show features a wide range of contemporary painters, including Chor Boogie, Lu Gold, Kiji McCafferty, Erik Otto and Kate Pane. LA Art Show: Murals from Andrew Hem, Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof

For several days while the Los Angeles Art Show was in town, Andrew Hem’s (interviewed), Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof were hard at work working on some large mural pieces. Interested attendees were treated to some extended live painting as each artist worked on some signature imagery for their enjoyment.
