Last time we saw Clare Rojas, she was showing with Lydia Fong (aka Barry McGee) and Andrew Jeffrey Wright at New Image Art. She currently has a show in the UK at the Ikon Gallery entitled “We They, We They” which will be running until the March 21st. Stop by if you are in the area as it looks like the “Mission School” artist has put together a pretty fantastic installation with her folk-inspired art including her signature painted banjos. New Image Art packed the house last night with their “American Realities” group show featuring the work of Barry McGee, working under the pseudonym Lydia Fong, his wife Clare Rojas, and their long-time friend and collaborator Andrew Jeffrey Wright. McGee presented some classic pieces containing his iconic figures and continued his exploration of geometric patterns and shape with an installation that encompassed one of the gallery’s walls. Last night’s opening for “15 Years of New Image Art” (previewed here and here) reaffirmed why New Image Art is one of the primary driving forces in the alternative/low-brow/street art scene. The show was everything we thought it would be and more – great art, an energetic crowd, and non-stop entertainment. Tonight marks the opening of New Image Art’s anniversary show “15 Years of New Image Art” (previewed). AM swung by the gallery yesterday to check out the progress of the installation. While we were there, Judith Supine was putting on the finishing touches to his 18’x16′ kinetic sculpture and Neck Face was customizing a motorcycle in his uniquely raw style.
