Recap: Inka Essenhigh – “Comet Dust & Crystal Shards” @ Jacob Lewis Gallery

Jacob Lewis Gallery recently held it’s inaugural exhibition with New York artist Inka Essenhigh. Entitled Comet Dust & Crystal Shards, this new body of work was created over the span of a calendar year with the focus of seasons as inspiration of each composition. With her surreal touch and unique creative process of blending external and internal influences, Essenhigh again takes our breath away with a stunning series of magical paintings. AM was in attendance for New York-based painter George Condo’s much-anticipated recent opening at Chelsea’s Skarstedt Gallery— his first show in NYC since his amazing retrospective at the New Museum (featured). Entitled Double Heads and Black Paintings/Abstractions, this fresh exhibition focuses in on Condo’s exploration of portraiture and “action painting.” Utilizing layering techniques, erasure and composition, the artist pushes his already impressive abstraction style to another level. Arrested Motion was on hand for the Saturday, November 8th opening of “Momentum”, the three person show featuring Mars-1, Oliver Vernon and Damon Soule at Space Gallery in Denver, Colorado. Acclaimed Cuban-American artist, Jorge Rodriguez Gerada has released a truly historic hand finished etching print (limited to 200) based on his iconic Terrestrial Portrait, Out of Many, One, that took The National Mall by storm this past October. The original work commissioned by The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery was a land portrait composed of dozens of American men (of many nationalities) constructed on Americas most treasured plot of land. Incense filled the air as we visited the Takashi Murakami exhibition at Gagosian Gallery. This is the site of the artist’s first major exhibition in New York City since his monumental retrospective held at the Brooklyn Museum (covered) in 2007. Releases: James Jean – “Seasons” Print

On November 18th, next Tuesday, starting at 8:00 AM PST, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing another timed edition. Entitled Seasons, it will have an image size of 22.25 x 37″ and paper size of 24 x 40″, and will cost $200. Anyone ordering it 24 hours after the start time will get one (never to be released again) with the run determined by demand. Head over here at the appropriate time to add it to your collection. After dipping their feet into the waters of the Denver art community with a mural a few months back (covered), Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon return tonight with a full plunge. Freshly opened Richard & Le Feuvre Gallery in Geneve, Switzerland, introduced their work to the local art lovers with an inaugural group show titled Paper Party 2.
