Last Thursday, Bay Area artist Mitsy Ávila Ovalles opened up her latest solo show in her hometown of San Jose at Cukui, a clothing store that also holds monthly art exhibitions on one end. Her work is done in a wide variety of mediums that include painting, crochet and digital, which is heavily influenced by Mexican pop culture, b-list celebrities, food and sports (like a misguided Dodger fan). Over the weekend, Lebasse Projects unveiled the new solo exhibition, Surface to Air, by artist Thomas Doyle. The artwork included a variety of photographs and sculptural work which touched upon the themes of destruction in suburbian landscapes. One half of the exhibit featured an incredible collection of miniatures that were created with an insane amount of detail and craftsmanship. Although the pieces were small in size, it demanded the viewer to truly pay close attention to the intricacies and settings which Doyle attempted to recreate. […]
