This Saturday, August 13th in San Francisco, a unique exhibition is opening at the SFMOMA. How do you hold a conversation artistically with someone long dead? The Kunsthaus in Bregenz, Austria recently opened up an exhibition Art / Architecture that explores the lesser known architectural work of the recently released Ai Weiwei. It’s certainly encouraging to see the Chinese artist continue to exhibit despite his imprisonment as well as him starting to enter social media again (Instagram & Twitter – English translation). Teaser: Lindsey Carr – “Homage to Canton” @ Thinkspace

Scotland-based artist Lindsey Carr, who we have seen in multiple group shows in the past, will be bringing a full set of paintings for her solo at Thinkspace in September. Entitled Homage to Canton, the new body of work will feature her retro-feel illustrations of flora and fauna like the great John James Audubon but with a surreal touch like Scott Musgrove as some of what she paints won’t be found in nature.

Congratulations to contributing photographer Brandon Shigeta as his ARTCUBE installation for Little Tokyo Design Week (LTDW) was a smashing success. In fact, Brandon’s concept was chosen as the winner of this year’s Golden Astro Boy award award. We all hit bumps in the road, but with a little help we can all overcome any obstacles. As mentioned previously, a good friend of AM and assistant director of Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was unfortunately diagnosed with a Multiple Sclerosis. We helped sponsor a fundraiser created by the gallery to generate funds that went to support Tim and his medical bills. For the last five and a half weeks, Gagosian Gallery on Britannia Street (the larger of its two spaces in London) has been hosting a Takashi Murakami exhibition (previewed). The show features five large-scale sculptures along with a group of paintings merging references to both Japanese contemporary society and the country’s artistic heritage. Openings: “Eve” @ Subliminal Projects

A couple weeks ago, the gallery that Obey built hosted an group exhibition of nine female artists whose work was collectively entitled Eve. Judy Chicago, Mary Beth Edelson, Kim McCarty, Ayanah Moor, Alex Prager, Lisa Steele, Swoon, Stella Vine and Hannah Wilke are a diverse group of artists stemming from the era of the 1970’s to the present and each brought their unique touch to Subliminal Projects exploring their perceptions of femininity. A couple weeks ago, the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto hosted new work from Dalek (interviewed) and Greg Lamarche (interviewed). Masters of structured typography and geometric shapes, the two displayed impeccable linework as well as balanced compositions in the paintings they brought.
