Tim O’Brien – Gaddafi Time Magazine Cover

Looks like Tim O’Brien is the go-to guy now when it comes to the fall of dictators. After “x”-ing out Osama bin Laden for the TIME’s cover a while back, the magazine asked him to headline their latest issue with the cover art for their Gaddafi story. Since the elusive former Libya strongman is still on the loose, although his rule is pretty much over, the painting had to be a little more subtle (explained on Tim’s blog). More detailed pics and actual cover after […]

Teaser: Antony Micallef – “Happy, Deep Inside My Heart” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

On September 9th, Antony Micallef (interviewed) will be returning to the Rathbone Place location of Lazarides with another exhibition.  Happy, Deep Inside My Heart, will be his first solo since 2009 at the London gallery (covered), although his work was seen stateside in a group show with Conor Harrington, JR and Vhils in Beverly Hills last year. AM was quite enamored with his last set of paintings for the UK and look forward to seeing what he has to offer this time. Discuss this show […]

Releases: James Jean x OVM – “Escape” Silk Scarf

In case you missed the last batch of James Jean x OVM scarves, which sold out earlier this Spring, there may be hope for you yet. Tomorrow, the next design Escape will go on sale on the OVM site. You may remember the original artwork from his Art HK booth with Martha Otero back in May. As with the previous release, this hand-rolled silk scarf is very limited with only 75 produced. Streets: T&J Art Walk (Oslo) Part III

It’s time to summarize the remaining murals for the T&J Art Walk now after bringing you the walls from Faile, Shepard Fairey, D*Face, and Logan Hicks previously. The other artists involved include The London Police, who threw up the sick piece above, as well as Will Barras, Fenx, Martin Whatson, and Gallo. Keep in mind, the reason behind this event in Oslo was to support of the Human Rights Watch (HRW) and to honor those slain and injured of the terror attack of July 22. We’ll also be bringing you […]

Releases: Anish Kapoor x illy Art Collection

Finally after years of hoping and wanting, we got an Anish Kapoor dish… coffee cup and dish that is. Italian Coffee maker illy has commissioned the famous Indian artist to design this year’s artist cup for their prestigious Art Collection which has seen collaborations with some of art’s most celebrated artists such as Jeff Koons, Louise Bourgeois and Robert Rauschenberg. At first glance, one may notice that this cup and saucer garners the same perfectly polished metallic surface that we’ve come to expect from many of Kapoor’s iconic […]

Preview / Studio Visit: Jeff Soto for “Les Enfants TERRIBLES” (Lyon)

Last week, AM was invited over to visit Jeff Soto (interviewed) in his new studio in Riverside. The multi-purpose complex not only housed his workspace and office but also a tattoo parlor, a clothing line, as well as the office of childhood friend Maxx242. We were looking forward to seeing some new paintings from Jeff, seeing as he was surrounded by other creative talents. What you see above is some of the work he will be bringing to Lyon during the opening week of the Lyon Biennale for […]

Openings: Damon Soule – “Then What Happened” @ FFDG

Saturday evening saw the opening of Damon Soule’s latest show, Then What Happened at Fecal Face Dot Gallery (previewed). The show featured a series of paintings in a variety of sizes that visually expressed the scientific aspects of Time (such as wave collapse and special relativity) and using it as a base to build upon. Also on display is an installation piece, which is an alter dedicated to the Greek god, Chronos who represents the personification of time. Check out additional pics of the artist’s […]

Streets: Ron English (Detroit)

Ron English (featured) started his road trip to Detroit recently, looking to bring some of his art to the city including apparently a hand painted “grin balloon.” Along with some walls and billboards plastered with his “popaganda” imagery at the imfamous Packard Plant location, he also raised his profile in the motor city with something inflatable that could be seen from a distance. More photos after the jump…

Tracey Emin’s Work Installed In UK’s Governmental Headquarters

10 Downing Street, or known by people in the UK as Number 10, the governmental headquarters recently had one of Tracey Emin’s signature neon signs installed. Intended as a gift (to the Government Art Collection) and a suggestion, the piece was placed in the Terracotta Room by order of the Prime Minister David Cameron, who is the fan of the often provocative YBA’s work.  On a related note, if you live near London, you can still catch her major retrospective at the Hayward Gallery through […]

Studio Visits: David Shillinglaw

Studio visits are probably the most enjoyable things that we get to do here at AM. A little time to talk with the artist about their work, and also a chance to soak up the environment in which the work is created. David Shillinglaw’s environment is a pretty special one. His North London home and studio is situated at the top of an old brick-built warehouse / factory building and the huge loft offers more work and play space than any of the studios than […]
