Robert Longo x Bottega Veneta

In the ’80s, it was Robert Longo who originated the often-imitated (Apple iPod ads, anyone?) style of twisting, turning, and contorting action shots in his series Men in the Cities. Recently, Bottega Veneta came correct by hiring the artist to work on their ad campaign, instead of copying him. Longo’s photographs will appear in the Fall-Winter 2010/2011 marketing materials for the high-fashion label, continuing the recent trend of partnerships (Ryan McGinley, Aakash Nihalani, Eine, etc.) between artists and brands. Openings: Jim Houser – “The Homebody” @ Subliminal Projects

AM stopped by Subliminal Projects last Saturday night to check out the new body of work from Jim Houser. “The Homebody” (previewed) was everything we expected – witty installations, a packed gallery, paintings full of patterns, symbols and codewords. What was unexpected though was an install that played an instrumental track – a soundtrack the artist created for the exhibition. Also, we felt that that clustering of paintings and art objects through out the space was interesting and nicely done. More pics after the jump…

Streets: Michael De Feo in Hong Kong

Dan Baldwin’s solo, “A New Life”, recently opened at Signal Gallery, and AM stopped by to take a look at the new work on show. We recently ran into Aussie artist Melissa Haslam (featured) at the Jonathan Yeo opening and talked to her a little about her upcoming show at LeBasse Projects. She sounded excited about her new body of work and so are we, after seeing this little peek at a piece from the show. Releases: Steve Powers and Chiho Aoshima for Absolut Vodka

Our friends at the art collectors have posted some info and images of an interesting collaboration between Absolut Vodka and two of our favorite artists, Steve Powers (featured) and Chiho Aoshima. Each artist has designed two drink pitchers to accompany bottles of the Swedish beverage, released in different sizes depending on country. Last year, AM had the pleasure of visiting artist Joe Sorren at his studio in Flagstaff – you can check out our pictures here. Whilst we were there, Joe gave us a tour of the town, and in particular an insider’s look at his mural, titled “The Veridic Gardens of Effie Leroux”, in downtown Heritage Square. We brought you a few teaser pics of Matt Haber’s “The Little Voyageurs” coming together at The Bldg in Covington, Kentucky a week or so ago, and since Matt got home to Brooklyn, he sent us some flicks of the work from the show. AM recently brought you details of the ProjectRoom event that Jaybo and Remi/Rough held last month in London with Juice 126. The artists combined their talents to create three collaborative pieces of work on the night. This nicely produced video gives some background of the project coming together, along with footage of the live painting itself, so now you can enjoy the fun even if you couldn’t make it.
