Preview: “The New Grand Tour” @ Bryce Wolkowitz

We know you all have wondered where it went – and after many centuries, the Grand Tour is coming back, courtesy of Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery and curator Amanda Bhalla Wilkes. The New Grand Tour is a revival, redefinition, and reinvention of the tradition that started in the 16th century. The original grand tour was a culmination of aristocratic education, where young men and women traveled to cities like Paris, Venice, Florence, and Rome to broaden their cultural background. The group of artists in the New […]

Last weekend, the San Francisco Fine Art Fair returned to the Bay Area after almost a hiatus of almost a decade. Galleries close and far took advantage of this opportunity to show their wares to the eager local art community. AM was on hand to take some pics, all after the jump…

Art of the 2010 World Cup

As the 2010 FIFA World Cup gets closer, it’s only natural that more and more projects related to the world’s greatest sporting event come to light. Earlier, we brought you news of a Kehinde Wiley x Puma World Cup project and now word comes that FIFA has commissioned 17 artists to create soccer-themed works of art. The original pieces were auctioned at Phillips de Pury, but the signed and numbered prints — 2,010 of each image are available for those interested here. More images after […]

Videos: Evan Hecox – Creative Process

Our friend Evan Hecox’s (covered) talents have been captured with this very rad video. It catches Evan’s creative mind at work as he does a new series of work for Incase and Arkitip. From the photographic groundwork that he lays to the finishing strokes, this little documentary of his creative process is totally worth checking out. Via OMG Posters

Raymond Pettibon @ Gladstone Gallery (Brussels)

Having shown in London just a few months back, Raymond Pettibon continues his European tour with a show of new works at the venerable Gladstone Gallery in Brussels. The exhibition continues on Pettibon’s themes of exploring the American psyche through images and text.  His comic strip-style narratives combine stunningly rendered images in the artist’s unique style with text drawn from a number of sources, including poet William Blake, vernacular speech, and pulp magazines. Icons from American culture, including fighter jets, bombs, cars, and UFOs dominate […]

Preview: “The Future Tense” @ The Future Gallery, London

The Future Tense launches itself in London this week with a showing of represented artists Katrin Fridriks, Lee Baker, Mark Webber, Tom Oldham, Joseph Loughborough, Jamie Shaw and Louis Hudson. We particularly like the look of Katrin Fridriks’ work, pictured above. The Icelandic artist currently lives and works in Paris where she composes her abstract explosions of colour using an almost perfect balance of order and refinement complimenting the chaos and urgency seen within her work. The official opening takes place on Wednesday 26th May, […]

Releases: Final “LOST” Prints

With the finale of our beloved “LOST” show scheduled for tonight, we thought it was a good time to highlight the last series of prints inspired by the sci-fi drama. Damon Carton And A Polar Bear have been releasing sold-out prints based on the show’s mythology for a while now, but this final series involves some artists that you are probably familiar with like Tara McPherson, Jeff Soto (interviewed), Daniel Danger (interviewed), and Little Friends Of Printmaking. Take a look at some other images after […]

A review of Frank Gehry’s Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas. Gagosian Gallery to expand empire into Hong Kong. The Beckhams appear to have an art collection. Probably untrue, but this site lists James Franco as US’s Biennale artist representative. Orange County Museum of Art announces artists in the California Biennial. Art market thriving in Dubai. Pablo Picasso in NY. Street sign assisted theft of Banksy prints, real Banksy stolen from Kate Moss, and it only took one man to […]

Preview: Richard Colman – “Keep Out the Light” @ New Image Art

Set to open tonight at New Image Art is Richard Colman’s “Keep Out the Light”. The new body of work will feature some of the artist’s signature imagery with increasingly frantic geometric patterns interspersed with the interconnected characters that inhabit his paintings. The bright and beautiful hues of his configurations provide a stark contrast to his violent and often overtly sexual world. From the look of things, visitors will be greeted with some pretty impressive murals and installations when the show opens. Check our more […]
