Last weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) held his latest solo show “May Day” at the legendary Deitch Projects in New York City and effectively shut down a small part of SoHo with the crowds he drew at the opening night festivities. It seemed as though anyone and everyone who had an interest in art was in attendance. Ana Bagayan should need no introduction to regular readers of AM, her stunning portraiture and contemporary figurative work being a regular feature here as her work continues to evolve with each and every new show. Entitled “Flutter”, Ana’s latest solo exhibition and her first body of work to be shown overseas, opens this weekend on Saturday 8th May at Rome’s Mondo Bizzaro Gallery. One our stops in this past weekend’s art tour de force in NYC was Scott Campbell’s “If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long”. Hailing from Miami, OHWOW Gallery created a hip Soho pop-up space that was new to AM eyes. The minty fresh location drew boatloads to the opening night festivities. This past weekend, Faile and Bast opened the New York version of their famed “Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” show. AM attended the opening of Mark Ryden’s latest series of work “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” at Paul Kasmin Gallery (previewed). As expected, the space was packed with art enthusiasts that were clamoring to see Mr. Ryden’s amazing talents. Mark certainly didn’t disappoint as he created a cohesive body of works that are as diverse as they are great. Two names familiar to AM readers, and no doubt to mainstream popular culture aficionados today, is Shepard Fairey and Banksy. Today, we learned that Banksy was included in TIME Magazine’s TIME100 list, featuring 100 of the most influential people “who most affect our world”.
