Openings: Seonna Hong – “In Our Nature” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco held the opening reception for a solo exhibition from Seonna Hong (interviewed). Entitled In Our Nature, the new body of work from the Los Angeles-based artist continued her landscape works featuring her human and animal companions surrounding by minimalistic environments created from abstract and loose elements. Included in the show were a series of small and medium sized canvases as well as some even smaller pieces painted on paint chips. Photo credit: Shaun Roberts. Discuss this show here. On October 13th, Rodolphe Janssen in Brussels will be showing for the first time the works of American artist Emily Mae Smith. The concept of Tesla Girls was inspired by Christopher Priest’s 1995 novel The Prestige and the idea of a faulty teleportation machine that creates nonidentical duplicates of a person. With this idea in mind, Smith is continuing her signature series of female portraits recognizable by round glasses, sharp hairstyles and lack of distinguishable features. After making an appearance in Hong Kong and Ibiza, KAWS’ monumental Clean Slate sculpture has reached its final resting place. The NorthPark Center in Dallas has added the piece featuring the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature Companion figures to their impressive permanent collection that includes Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Joel Shapiro, Jim Dine, Jonathan Borofsky, James Rosenquist, Antony Gormley, Barry Flanagan and Beverly Pepper, among others. Release: Jamian Juliano-Villani – “Is There room for Bruce?” Print

To coincide with her show that just opened at Studio Voltaire in London, Jamian Juliano-Villani has also released a new limited edition entitled Is There room for Bruce? At the end of last month, David Shrigley revealed his public art commission standing on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square. Entitled Really Good, the seven-meter-high bronze piece featuring an extra long thumbs up was sand cast in 50 pieces over 9 months. The British artist hopes that this 11th sculpture for the long running arts program will become a “self-fulfilling prophecy – that things considered bad, such as the economy, the weather and society will benefit from a change of consensus towards positivity.” Photos via It’s […]

Teasing his fans with shots of the stunning new body of work he is working on for his next solo show, Aron Wiesenfeld has already revealed a look at a massive drawing in progress (seen above) as well as a cropped shot of a painting he has completed (seen below). Unwind The Winding Path opens on November 19th at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and will be the San Diego-based artist’s major exhibition for 2016. Discuss Aron Wiesenfeld here.
