Studio Visit: DALeast

A couple of weeks ago, we had the privilege to peek inside DALeast’s (interviewed) studio in Berlin as he was preparing the new works for his upcoming solo show which opens on 2nd of November at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York. For his first gallery presentation on the East Coast in over five years, the Chinese-born artist is preparing a selection of works created with different techniques and mediums. We’ve been following the career of DAL for almost a full decade now and we’ve always had a weak […]

Showing: Mr Jago – ‘Rewild’ @ Unit London

Mr Jago’s third solo show at Unit London, entitled Rewild, draws to a close this weekend following a four week run at the Mayfair gallery. The exhibition’s title references the practice of reintroducing keystone species and replanting a landscape’s flora as a mechanism for restoring an ecosystem’s resilience and helping to address more globalized environmental problems. To be properly understood, the exhibition has to be read both as part of the lineal development of the Bristol-based artist’s practice and also within the much wider context of […]

Streets: Tomokazu Matsuyama – Houston & Bowery Mural

Created over the course of 14 days, the newest mural from Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) at the iconic Houston & Bowery location is perhaps the most detailed piece painted there to date. Following in the footsteps of long list of worthy artists before him, the locally-based artist with a team of assistants utilized 200 spray cans, approximately 80 gallons of paint, 80 stencils, and 165 markers to cover the 60 x 20 foot wall with a masterpiece featuring Matzu’s special blend of imagery influenced by his cross-cultural heritqge. Showing: Sterling Ruby – “ACTS + TABLE” @ Gagosian (London)

Currently on view at Gagosian’s Britannia Street location in London, ACTS + TABLE features sculptural works from versatile artist Sterling Ruby. For his first showing with the gallery in the UK, the American artist has two series of works on display: ACTS or Absolute Contempt for Total Serenity – urethane blocks with trapped dyes in mid descent placed on top of laminate pedestals that show signs of vandalism (such as scratches, scuff marks, inscriptions, and traces of spray paint) and TABLE – salvaged welding tables affixed with metal pipes, faucets, and frying pans, a sort memorial […]

Previews: “The Flats” @ Tales Of Art Gallery

On October 19th, Tales Of Art Gallery in Imola, Italy will be presenting a new group show entitled The Flats. Videos: The Tunnels – Nuart 2019

We’ve just received this experimental movie from the Nuart Festival headquarters, put together by Ukrainian art film duo MZM Projects, the makers of the famed Imaginary City film. Using fragments of artist talks, excerpts from the news, interviews and curatorial text by festival director Martyn Reed, the filmers resampled and infused these with the lyrics from Tricky’s Brand New, You’re Retro, 1995 track (by the Bristol artist and producer from which the exhibition took its cues). Taking a different angle to capture and present the vibe during the […]

Showing: Lucy Sparrow – “Delicatessen on 6th” @ Rockefeller Center

Our friend Lucy Sparrow is at it again. This time, she returns to NYC in a takeover of the iconic Rockefeller Center entitled Delicatessen on 6th. With the help of Art Production Fund, the UK-based artist has unveiled another chapter in her amazing market installation series (here & here) featuring a 100% hand crafted replica of a New York City delicatessen featuring a cornucopia of gourmet gems you would normally be tempted to eat while exploring the Big Apple’s endless food offerings. From macarons & […]

Showing: KAWS – ‘Blackout’ @ Skarstedt (London)

Earlier this week, KAWS opened his first solo UK exhibition at Skarstedt Gallery in London. The show entitled Blackout presents two new bronzes and 10 new paintings that combine elements of his readily identifiable iconography with an increasing level of abstraction. Throughout his career, KAWS has embraced mass media culture as a valid and vital form of communication. Globalization has made cartoons like Spongebob and The Simpsons universally known and imbued them with the ability to transcend economic, cultural and linguistic borders in a way […]

Interviews: Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey (interviewed) officially became a household name in 2008 when he created the Obama Hope poster. But even years before that, the South Carolina-born artist already had a notorious reputation for his André the Giant Has a Posse sticker that transformed into the now legendary OBEY GIANT art campaign. Through his career, Fairey has addressed critical topics such as climate change, the Me Too movement, world politics, while basically reinventing the way people see art and the urban landscape. On October 5th, his series of shows around […]
