Streets: DALeast (Poland)

A couple days ago, DALeast sent over images of a new mural he painted for the Street Art Doping Project in Warsaw, Poland. Entitled Dormant Antennae, the striking new mural featuring a falcon perching on a cobra that was painted to channel up to an antennae on the roof. This time around after taking a long look at the building, the Chinese artist wanted to create an older looking piece that would appear like it had been part of the structure for a long time. We […]

Streets: DALeast (Cape Town)

While being fully focused on his studio work and painting works for his upcoming solo show at Jonathan LeVine in NYC later this year, DALeast recently found time to create this quick street piece in Cape Town. Titled Raiden-EX1, this mural features another one of his wild cats, this time blending in with the busy traffic in the legislative capital of South Africa. Constantly focused on nature and its power, this time DAL painted the wild beast that looks like it upgraded its source of energy with human equipment. In the […]

Streets: DALeast (Belgium)

DALeast has been having a quiet year focusing more on his studio work, traveling less and doing less street works. But recently, he took part in the Day One Festival in Roeselare, Belgium, organized by Street Art Belgium, by creating this massive piece on the docks. The Chinese-born artist painted this large image showing six human figures moving a large mountain. Painting in a country that doesn’t have one single mountain, this was artists symbolic present to the country. According to the artist, the image represents […]

Showing: DALeast – “Redok” @ The Outsiders (Newcastle)

On the 22nd of November, The Outsiders in Newcastle opened a solo by Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed). For this show, the South Africa-based painter created six large canvases, as well as six matching pen on paper studies, a video installation, and an exclusive limited edition etching created at gallery’s print studio. The title of the show, REDOK, is the phonetic English spelling for a Tibetan expression of hope and fear, two emotions that rule lives. Stepping away from his previous practice of painting dynamic movement scenes, DAL instead presented […]

Releases / Previews: DALeast – “Redok” @ The Outsiders (Newcastle)

Capetown-based artist DALeast is opening a highly anticipated solo show with The Outsiders in Newcastle on the 22nd of November. The title of the show, Redok, comes from a Tibetan phrase meaning “hope and fear,” and represents the emotions the artist tries to show with his works. The main part of this coherent new body of work are six large scale acrylic on canvas pieces on tea stained backgrounds, created over many months. With the largest piece being 200cm tall, and the smallest around 120cm, these will be some […]

Streets: DALeast for Avant Garde Urbano (Spain)

DALeast went dark and dirty with his latest piece at this year’s Avant Garde Urbano festival. This 30′ x 60′ corner wrapped intertwined beast of a piece had one particular local screaming bloody murder, claiming it was a work of the devil while a handful of others graciously said it was just what this decomposing lot needed to breath some new life into its former shell of a structure now exposed to the open air. Regardless, at the end of the day, the Chinese artist’s latest work […]

Streets: DALeast (Spain)

On his recent travels around the world, Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed) stopped recently in Malaga, Spain, to leave his mark for the Malaga Maus project. Always up for pushing his work and technique, the artist decided not to place his mural on a flat wall, but used the architectural challenges of the place. The result is a magnificent mural titled Abiding in The Broken Heart which is showing a giant black bird with lots of smaller birds flying out of it. With his unmistakable line work, […]

Streets: Wooster Collective 10 year Anniversary (DUMBO)

The recent extensive showcase of street art put together by the Wooster Collective for their ten year anniversary exhibition (covered) at Jonathan LeVine Gallery was just the tip of the iceburg. In the streets of Williamsburg & Dumbo, the collective got ahold of some prime wall space for some of the artists involved to work on. We stopped by Brooklyn’s DUMBO district to catch artists such as Shepard Fairey, DALeast, Faith 47, Eltono and MOMO put their signature styles on full display for the community to enjoy. […]
