Streets: DALeast (New York)

Last month in New York, DALeast (interviewed) completed a piece for the The L.I.S.A Project NYC that really utilizes to great effect the unique style of mural making that he is known for. Featuring a frenetic amalgamation of kinetic strokes, the wall pops with contrasts between the paint and the brick wall as well as the blue and reds while highlighting the Chinese-born artist’s continued focus on wildlife. Take a look at more photos below… Photo credit: @pixelatedstreets. Discuss DALeast here.

Studio Visit: DALeast

A couple of weeks ago, we had the privilege to peek inside DALeast’s (interviewed) studio in Berlin as he was preparing the new works for his upcoming solo show which opens on 2nd of November at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York. For his first gallery presentation on the East Coast in over five years, the Chinese-born artist is preparing a selection of works created with different techniques and mediums. We’ve been following the career of DAL for almost a full decade now and we’ve always had a weak […]

Showing: DALeast – “Plasma” @ Weinstein Gallery

On March 18th, Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco hosted a big comeback solo show by DALeast (interviewed). After more than a year of traveling and self discovery, the Chinese-born artist introduced a new body of work entitled Plasma. Taking the scientific definition of plasma as an inspiration, the new pieces continue artist’s quest for inner self and speak to the connection between living beings on Earth. Seeing people and animals as unbound elements that are inevitably interacting with each other, DALeast presents life on Earth as a macro version of a plasma structure. […]

Streets: DALeast // Urban Xchange (Penang)

You may already seen the mural we shared with you yesterday painted by Sabek for Urban Xchange in Penang, so here is a followup on another artist who painted a piece for the event. The image of the phoenix can be seen soaring up on a wall near the Hin Bus Depot, created with bundles of kinetic wires, a technique that is signature to the work of DALeast (interviewed). What is interesting is the Chinese artist using a red palette this time, perhaps referencing how the the mythologic bird rises from the ashes. […]

Streets: Alexis Diaz, DALeast, Borondo / Lodz Walls (Poland)

Recently in Poland, Alexis Diaz (seen above), DALeast, and Borondo stopped by to paint some murals in the city of Lodz. City dwellers and online admirers will now be able to enjoy the detailed patchwork of Diaz, iconic kinetic wave from DAL, and the painterly skills of Borondo. Photo credit: Maciej Stempij.

Streets: DALeast / No Limit Borås (Sweden)

After a successful first event in 2014 (covered), the public arts program No Limit Borås in Sweden is back this year with a stellar list of artist. Chinese artist DALeast (interviewed) was one of the people invited to paint in the city of Borås, an opportunity he took to paint one of his expansive bird murals. Created with his signature kinetic brushstrokes, the piece was painted expertly over multiple separated walls on the same building leading to a unique effect when viewed from different angles. Other participants include Tristan Eaton, […]

Streets: World Roundup (May 1 – May 20)

It’s been few months without our Streets World Roundup feature, but it seems like the season for street art festival has arrived, so the only way to cover some of it is to do a group report on some of the most important murals worldwide.
