Last month in Huntington Beach, Hurley and the legendary Craig Stecyk III brought together a group of artists to create limited edition designs and screen prints on an etching press. Streets: James “DALEK” Marshall (Corona Del Mar)

Continuing to produce public displays of his geometric mastery, James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently painted another mural at the Hobie Surf Shop in Corona Del Mar. Orange County is kind of ground zero for fans of the American artist’s work because of his affiliation with Hurley – leading to many shows, product lines, and associated events in and around Hurley Space. Following directly on from Part 1 of our coverage of the busy Space//Form opening, AM now delves a little deeper pictorially into the artwork created for this huge group exhibition of 110 artists with a series of pictures where the art is more viewable (like the Mark Dean Veca installation above). Our Streets: World Roundup returns this week with this collaborative mural from Serbian twins Sobekcis and Zoer at the top of the list. The wall was painted on the westside of Copenhagen on a street called Sdr. Boulevard. Thanks for Henrik Haven for the photo. Installation: Dalek – “Spectrum Analysis” @ Flanders Gallery

Tonight (September 7th) in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Flanders Gallery will be hosting Spectrum Analysis, a showing of new installations from James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed). Continuing his exploration of abstract geometries, last seen in Orange County in July, Marshall will be filling the showspace with large-scale blue paintings executed on modular panels. Created last year during a residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, these diamond and starburst forms will interspaced with murals painted directly onto the gallery walls. One of the most interesting things about curating a group exhibition of over 100 artists is getting to see behind the scenes as the artists develop their work for the show (Chloe Early seen above). Following our recently curated group exhibitions in Hong Kong; East West Connect and Los Angeles; City of Fire, AM’s UK correspondent Sven Davis has branched out with his own curatorial endeavour Space//Form. The group exhibition brings together over 100 young contemporary artists, and opens 6th September at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery. Tomorrow night (July 31st), in celebration of the US Open of Surfing 2012 (also see PUSH’s effort) and launch of the Phantom Fuse boardshort, Hurley presents STABILIMENTUM, an immersive new installation from James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed). Judging from this new ink piece from James Marshal aka Dalek (interviewed), he hasn’t completely killed off his space monkeys yet. Of course, his more abstract work also continues with an update of a mural he painted at the Hobie Surf Shop in Corona Del Mar, a completely new piece really.
