Yesterday’s Contemporary Day Sale (previewed) at Sotheby’s in London only had a few lots that AM was closely watching, but the results are a good sign for the overall market. In particular, Faile received a much needed boost with their large canvas “New York City 02” (Lot # 169) selling right in the middle of the estimate for 49,250 GBP and the smaller “NYC Butterfly Girl” on wood (Lot # 168) selling for 16,250 GBP, well over the 12,000 GBP high estimate. Faile has not […]
This Friday, June 26th, Sotheby’s (London) will be holding their prestigious Contemporary Day Auction with some amazing works from the top of the Contemporary Art food chain. As one of the top auction houses in the world, we come to expect the usual suspects such as: Francis Bacon, David Hockney, Damien Hirst, Yue Minjun, Takashi Murakami, Zhang Xiaogang and Richard Prince. A pleasant trend we wanted to note is Sotheby’s inclusion of urban art notables such as Banksy, Faile and Ryan McGinness in this auction. It’s interesting to […]
Creativity is best defined as the generation of new ideas and concepts and is often called an “asummptions breaking process.” This requires the discarding of preconceived notions and approaching ideas with a fresh perspective that others would not conceive of. It was exciting to have such a collection of premium artwork centralized in one place. Check out all our exclusive coverage after the jump.
Here is an insightful video about Damien Hirst’s “Requiem” exhibition in Kiev demonstrating how his spin paintings are created as well as touching on topics such as his support charity and themes in his work. More importantly, we get a moving glimpse at his biggest show yet. Also, check out some photos from the exhibition that we posted previously here. Discuss Damien Hirst here.
Billed as the largest collection of Damien Hirst’s work ever exhibited, the show “Requiem” opened at Pinchuk Art Centre last Saturday, April 25th in Kiev, Ukraine. Hirst will be showing his retrospective of over 100 works dating from 1990 to 2008 at steel billionaire Victor Pinchuk’s namesake museum including not only the sculptures and installations that he is famous for, but also a collection of oil paintings, most of which have never been exhibited. For those unable to attend the show (probably all of you, […]
Contemporary art bad boy Damien Hirst and British band The Hours have put together an amazing contest where participants will have the opportunity to win the original artwork or one of 20 signed lithograph prints from the band’s “See The Light” album cover, which was created by Hirst himself. In addition, each entrant will also receive a link via e-mail to download the band’s latest track, “These Days.” With the band’s album releasing April 20th on his record label, Hirst is undoubtedly approaching this latest […]
It seems like even KAWS and his 4-foot companions can’t stay away from these wooden gems. A few weeks ago we reported about the latest Damien Hirst “Artist Series” skate decks being releasing by Supreme. They go on sale today, 4/2, both online and at Supreme stores in Los Angeles and New York. Locations in Japan will have their release on Saturday, 4/4. Check out the video of Hirst talking about his creations and the Supreme skate team poppin’ ollies and shredding it. Check the surprise […]
The ARMORY Art Show as it’s name implies, was literally a stockpile of the art world’s heavy artillery. With works from Damien Hirst, Yoshitomo Nara, Kara Walker, Kenny Scharf, Kehinde Wiley, Gilbert & George, Julian Opie, Marilyn Minters, Tom Sachs and many more, the stockade of high caliber art stretched the imagination. Much like Art Basel in Miami, we struggled to keep up with the long aisles filled with notable galleries such as White Cube, Emmanuel Perrotin, Honor Fraser, and Mizuma that all brought their […]
