Brooklyn-based artist Dan Witz recently opened a show consisting of a fresh series of paintings at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Entitled NY Hardcore, this exhibition featured a new body of work that utilized his skills of old master painting techniques depicting hyper-realistic subjects. We experienced a healthy mix of portraiture and his high-energy mosh pit paintings that have been long enjoyed. Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome is launching their international project Public and Confidential on Sept 28th with the opening of a solo show by Brooklyn based artist, Dan Witz. Referring to the phrase often used to classify secret documents, the idea is to explore the works of artists that are active both in public and private spheres. Late last month, the Lazarides’ Rathbone Place in London hosted Dan Witz’s solo debut with the gallery with a show entitled Prisoners 2012 – 2013. As the title suggests, the new body of work was mainly focused on a series where the NY-based artist partnered with Amnesty International, the world’s largest human rights organization, to create works featuring individuals who are subjects of their campaign for rights awareness. On January 25th, Dan Witz will be making his solo debut with Lazarides at their Rathbone gallery in London. The multi-talented painter and street artist will be sharing paintings from his Prisoner and Mosh Pit series as well as plans to paint one of his prisoner’s images onto London phone boxes. Openings: “The Rejects” @ Reed Projects Gallery

Last weekend in Norway, the inaugural show at Reed Projects Gallery, The Rejects, opened featuring work from Vhils, Roa, Escif, Dolk, Evol, Dan Witz and Brad Downey. The new showspace is the brainchild of the same people behind the annual Nuart Festival in Stavenger and presumably will now become the indoor gallery of those artists involved. Openings: “Love & Hate” @ StolenSpace

Last month, the StolenSpace Gallery in London hosted a show that opened around Valentine’s Day appropriate to the theme entitled Love & Hate. For the group exhibition, most artists created two works, one for each of the strong emotions that often seems linked hand in hand depending on the situation. Because of the concept behind the showing, the pieces that were presented had an interesting dichotomy that made the exhibition well worth seeing. More photos after the jump by Henrik Haven…
