Previews: “Space//Squared” @ White Walls Gallery

Tomorrow night (May 10th) in San Francisco, the White Walls Gallery will be opening a new group exhibition curated by Sven Davis entitled Space//Squared. Following up on a show last year in Portland (covered), artists are again asked to contribute artwork in a 10″ x 10″ inch format, allowing us to see how each responds to the same prescribed guidelines. Over the weekend, an exhibition to benefit CAMP2E opened at the Soze Gallery entitled Steer Ahead. Artists like Dave Kinsey (seen above), Victor Castillo, Cyrcle., Devngosha, James Haunt, Brittany Segal, Dan Quintana, Bon Nielsen, Gregory Siff, Aaron De La Cruz, Paige Smith, Kristin Bauer, RETNA, Sarah Sandin, Aaron De la Cruz, Bone Thrower, Cole Sternberg, and Fidia Falaschetti were asked to customize and paint real steer skulls and display it along with original artwork. Dave Kinsey (featured) was one of the names we were looking forward to seeing in this year’s edition of the massive POW! WOW! Hawaii festival. POW WOW ’14 & 1xRUN Prints & Show

The annual POW! WOW! art retreat in Hawaii starts this weekend and 1xRUN will be on site to work on a special show at Loft in Space / Fresh Cafe set to open on February 14th. They have also partnered with Pangea Seed, a local non profit, to exhibit prints from their archives and their new Sametan figure customized by over 30 artists. Openings: Dave Kinsey – “Black White” @ FFDG

Over a week ago, Dave Kinsey opened up his solo show, Black and White (previewed), at Fecal Face Dot Gallery. The show featured a series of affordable 8″ x 10″ paintings on chipboard, as well painted wooden sculptures and works on canvas. Many of the works were named after people who had made significant contributions to San Francisco’s past. Experience the show vicariously through the photos posted below, as the exhibition ran a short and sweet life (three days). Discuss Dave Kinsey here.

Last week, we attended Joshua Liner’s opening of his new Chelsea gallery with a group exhibition entitled Direct Address. The expansive ground-floor space was filled with a impressive collection of works by The Clayton Brothers, David Ellis, Evan Hecox, Jean-Pierre Roy, Kris Kuksi (above), Richard Colman, Stephen Powers, SWOON, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Tony Curanaj and others.
