At the end of last month, the Library Street Collective hosted the opening of Dave Kinsey’s (featured) new show entitled Cushion of Memory. Moving somewhat away from the distorted human faces and forms as well as his signature palette anchored in reds, the artist based in the mountains north of Los Angeles has created a triumphant new body of works. An intriguing show that recently ended in Detroit at the Library Street Collective featured new works from Kelsey Brookes. Collectively entitled Sleep: The Science and the Mystery, the new paintings from the former biochemist are constructed painstakingly with colorful patterns that in an abstract way define chemical and molecular structures. This particular set of mesmerizing works from the San Diego area based artist focused on Acetylcholine, Histamine, Norepinephrine and GABA, four neurotransmitters which help regulate sleep. Upcoming: Kelsey Brookes – “Sleep: The Science and the Mystery” @ Library Street Collective

On July 25th, Library Street Collective in Detroit will be hosting new works from Kelsey Brookes collectively entitled Sleep: The Science and the Mystery. Drawing on his past life as a biochemist, the San Diego based artist paints chemical and molecular structures with loosely defined abstract shapes and patterns. The resulting psychedelic swirls can put the viewer almost into a trance-like state if one stares at the work too long, mesmerized by the vortex of vibrant colors. Discuss this show here. One month after his one night show at Kinfolk’s new 94Wythe space in NYC, for which he painted 72 different 12 x 12″ pieces, Sam Friedman opened his solo at the Library Street Collective in Detroit. After updating you with a new mural from Augustine Kofie (featured) in Detroit, it’s time to share some more fresh work from three other artists involved with the project. Curated by the Library Street Collective for a downtown mixed-use development (referred to as “The Z”), the undertaking had many American artists involved like Matt W. Moore, Push, Victor Reyes. Back in October, we shared with you a project that the Library Street Collective in Detroit had arranged at a downtown mixed-use development (referred to as “The Z”). A series of murals had been painted already in the ongoing venture at that time and now we have updates for you on some of the newer walls. Projects: Library Street Collective Indoor Murals @ The Z (Detroit)

The Detroit-based gallery, Library Street Collective, recently started a big project in downtown Detroit. In collaboration with Detroit entrepreneur/real estate mogul Dan Gilbert, they are commissioning 23 artists from all over the world to paint murals in a newly constructed mixed-use development (referred to as “The Z”).
