Last night, one of the hottest spots in Culver City was the opening of D*Face’s (featured) show Going Nowhere Fast at the Corey Helford Gallery. The next-level Lichtenstein inspired pieces combined with the sweet highly visible mural (covered) as well as his street intervention on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (covered) brought out his fans (new and old) in droves and led to brisk sales. We stopped by Culver City today to check out the near complete mural D*Face (featured) is painting on the side of the Corey Helford Gallery, site of his new show, Going Nowhere Fast, opening this Saturday night. As you can see, D is exploring melding his imagery with elements of Lichtenstein’s work, which we also saw in our earlier studio visit. Steal From Work (the guys that put on the 12 Days of Christmas and Not a Penny More group shows in Bristol) put on their first show in two years on Bristol’s busy Park Street. The production entitled Flogging a Dead Horse promised to be “a group show featuring the best (and worst) urban street contemporary artists in the world” and at first glance they really were true to their words. We recently attended the opening of Hueless, a group show of black and white works at Malick Williams & Co. Although the exhibition may have lacked color, it certainly did not lack artistry, with an exciting selection of monochromatic pieces by the likes of D Face, Shepard Fairey, Erik Haze, Curtis Kulig, Pete Watts and Skullphone. It sounds like D*Face (interviewed) will be spending some extended time in Los Angeles soon as he will be showing at the Corey Helford in April and during BritWeek in May (with Mear One).
