Preview: Bonhams Urban Art Auction

Tonight in London, the Bonhams Urban Art Auction will be getting underway. With the pieces that are made available for bidding and the results of great interest to collectors out there, all eyes will be on the lots up for sale including many familiar names and some new ones. Last Sunday, the Wende Museum officially unveiled to the public its Behind The Berlin Wall project which featured Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) painting one side (the East Berlin section) with their murals. The Wende Museum, spearheaded by Justin Jampol, is a collections-based education institute which preserves Cold War artifacts and which conceived of the Wall Project almost two years ago to the date. Later this afternoon, around 3pm, the Wende Museum in Los Angeles will be unveiling three new murals from Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) painted on the side of a section of the old Berlin Wall. A couple days ago, we brought you photos of Jasmin and Falk in action doing their part and now, we can show you what D and Retna decided to impart on their segments of the historic barrier. A couple weeks ago, the Metro Gallery opened their doors to the UK-based D*Face’s (interviewed) and a new body of work. Burn Brighter features original pieces and limited editions, his flutter-dies and chopped up books (which were introduced at the Corey Helford show in LA back in April), as well as many of the cheeky installations he has become known for. A couple Saturdays ago, the inaugural MTV RE:DEFINE benefit exhibition and auction opened at the Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas. As we previewed a couple weeks back, curators, The Future Tense, brought together an impressive roster of 30 emerging and established artists in the contemporary and urban/street art genres – including such big names as Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Harland Miller, Faile, Russell Young and Tracey Emin – to commemorate 30 years of AIDS research. Some great street art surprises have popped up around Shoreditch since the last AM London Instagram Roundup. First up, this brilliant, huge piece by the prolific Sweet Toof and CEPT at Village Underground was exceptionally nice to see.
