Getting a jump on the 2015 NuArt Festival (which official starts on September 5th), Norway’s own DOLK recently hit the streets of Stavanger to put up some fresh street pieces with a new abstract expressionist style. These works are apparently the beginning of a global series of 100 that take a radical departure from DOLK’s usual style. Mecka NYC is introducing an interesting project titled INSIDE/OUT, a unique, new event that will merge an exhibition, social media hunt, and fund raising event for Swoon’s (interviewed) ongoing Braddock Tiles event. The show will open on August 23 from 5pm – 9pm at Hotel Particulier in NYC, with the art hunt begining on the same day at 10am. This week’s Streets: World Roundup feature is headlined by a new mural (photo by Lois Stavsky) in New York City by Ron English, who worked overtime to finish it before Hurricane Sandy hit. The piece (on Mulberry Street between Canal and Hester in New York’s Little Italy) depicting his Temper Tot character is a English’s first mural in Manhattan in about 25 years as part of The New York Comedy Festival and Vandalog’s series of indoor and outdoor installations collectively titled The Art of Comedy. At the end of last month, Norway saw another edition of the annual Nuart Festival roll around. And as usual, another stellar lineup of artists stopped by to work on public art projects for local and traveling street art fans to enjoy. Participants Aakash Nihalani, Dolk, Eine, How & Nosm, Jordan Seiler, Mobstr (above), Ron English, Niels Shoe Muelman, Saber, Sickboy, The Wa also found time to create some indoor installations and murals for an associated group showing. Last weekend in Norway, the inaugural show at Reed Projects Gallery, The Rejects, opened featuring work from Vhils, Roa, Escif, Dolk, Evol, Dan Witz and Brad Downey. The new showspace is the brainchild of the same people behind the annual Nuart Festival in Stavenger and presumably will now become the indoor gallery of those artists involved. Studio Cromie just announced their lineup for “FAME Festival 2009,” an outdoor art event held from June through September in which street and contemporary artists from across the globe descend on Italy to create some spectacular murals across the city of Grottaglie.
