Outdoors: POW WOW ’11 – Walls & Luau

The POW WOW wasn’t only an indoor affair. Being in Hawaii, the gang took full advantage of all that the beautiful tropical atmosphere had to offer. An entire side of the building (across from Fresh Cafe) was secured for the artists who quickly put their street game facse on. Prime, Wu Yue, 123Klan, Will Barras, Meggs, and Ekundayo grabbed their spray cans to work under the Honolulu sky. The weeks of setup for the POW WOW ’11 in Honolulu culminated in blowout showcase bringing together talent from different parts of the world. People all over Hawaii came to take part in the celebration where performance, photography, graffiti, and fine art intersected. Setup / Preview – POW WOW ’11

It’s been a crazy few days since we landed in sunny Hawaii where the crew has been in the thick of getting ready for the big POW WOW ’11. We worked alongside our friends at Hypebeast, Booooooom and the rest of the sponsors to stretch canvases and build modular installation platforms in anticipation for Saturday night’s opening. It looks like the POW WOW preparations are already underway in Hawaii as late addition Ekundayo and Aaron Martin (Angry Woebots) get up on the walls of the FreshCafe / Loft in Space venue. The space will house all the live-painting, starting on the 16th, and main event on the 19th so hopefully we’ll be seeing more murals soon. More pics after the jump…

Coming up on June 11th, the talented Ekundayo will be opening his show “Joy Today Jeopardy Tomorrow” at Thinkspace Gallery. His distinctive and grotesque work reflects on the struggles and adversities of life as well as the joys and lessons that can come from fighting through the difficult times. ARTWALK Culver City: Thinkspace Gallery

Last weekend, Culver City hosted their ARTWALK 2009 event with over thirty galleries throughout the area participating. Thinkspace Gallery, located in the Silver Lake district, got in on the action as well, opening a one day pop-up gallery on Washington Blvd. Fans packed the rear gallery area throughout the day to see the live-painting demonstration by Asylm, Anthony Clarkson, Mear One, Michael Alvarez, Michael Pukac, Nathan DeYoung and Zoso. Openings: Hi-Fructose Group Show – “Overdose” @ Copro Gallery

“Overdose” (previewed) opened this past Saturday at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Upon entering the gallery, you will notice several great pieces from “Overdose” on display in the gallery’s front room. The majority of the exhibition’s body of work is displayed in the gallery’s main room. A table was set up over in the smaller wing of the gallery for the Hi-Fructose Collected Edition 1 book signing.
