Previews: Faith47 – “Aqua Regalia – Chapter Two” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Tomorrow night (November 19th) at the 557C West 23rd Street location of Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Faith47 will be opening a solo entitled Aqua Regalia – Chapter Two. As indicated from the title, the exhibition is a continuation of a series of works from the South African artist’s 2014 London show that deal with the idea of “royal water,” a highly corrosive mixture that has the ability to dissolve one of the most enshrined substances – gold. Related to this is the philosophy behind her work to utilize found objects and to […]

Streets: World Roundup (May 1 – May 20)

It’s been few months without our Streets World Roundup feature, but it seems like the season for street art festival has arrived, so the only way to cover some of it is to do a group report on some of the most important murals worldwide. Tahiti once again hosted the ONO’U festival and this year’s lineup included such names as DALeast, Faith47, Seth Globepainter (who teamed up with local artist HTJ), ROA, Dabs Myla, and Pose. The south hemisphere street art scene was active once again in Dunedin […]

Streets: Faith47 – “Una Salus Victis Nullam Sperare Salutem” (Johannesburg)

Una Salus Victis Nullam Sperare Salutem is the name of a new mural from Faith47 in Johannesburg on the corner of Fox and Rissik street. The piece captures some zebras in action along with a phrase that references Virgil’s Aeneid paraphrased by the artist – “the one safety for the vanquished is to abandon hope of safety. Surrendering to the knowledge that there is no hope, can bring deep courage.” The mural spanning two sides of an old, now-vacant department store, and the imagery brings movement to the fast-transforming […]
