Showing: Os Gemeos – “The Bunker” @ Museu Casa do Pontal

Earlier today, Museu Casa do Pontal in Rio de Janeiro unveiled the first ever permanent installation from the Brazilian street savants – Os Gemeos. Entitled The Bunker, the piece features a statue of their famous yellowskinned character enclosed within a concrete bunker. For those passing through SoHo in New York, a pretty sweet wall at the James Hotel from Paul Wackers may make it worth your while to stop for a look. In collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris is currently presenting the first exhaustive retrospective devoted to Jeff Koons in Europe until the 27th of April. Last week, AM attended the LA Art Show to see what the fair had to offer collectors in Los Angeles. Celebrating their 20th year anniversary, the event featured over 120 galleries representing 22 countries including the a special section called Littletopia (like last year) featuring galleries promoting the sub genre of the new contemporary art movement, low brow art, pop surrealism, as well as street & urban art. Julien Malland aka Seth Globepainter spent the last few weeks of 2014 travelling and painting around China. Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Moment of Impact” @ Lazarides Rathbone

Last week, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) premiered his debut solo show with Lazarides Rathbone entitled Moment of Impact. For his fans in London, the American artist has assembled a selection of provocative mixed media canvases and hyper-realist sculptures. Some pieces like his masked full-size figures are direct translations of his street interventions while others are produced for the gallery setting like the leg which seems to be bursting through a canvas or arms committing seppuku. Streets: Meggs (Los Angeles)

Recently in Los Angeles, Meggs teamed up with mobile game company Com2uS to paint an expansive mural promoting new and original content surrounding Summoners War. The new piece covering 2000 square feet of wall in Downtown LA (568 South Sante Fe Ave) features well known characters from the game such as Arch Angel, Dragon, and Angelmon rendered in the Melbourne-based artist’s signature aesthetic. Openings: Christian Rex van Minnen – “Golden Memes” @ Robischon Gallery

AM recently joined the masses at Robischon Gallery for the January 15th opening of Christian Rex van Minnen’s Golden Memes. The show is a homecoming for the New York-based artist, who brought his grotesque re-imagining of the Dutch Golden Age to Denver. The exhibition includes ten pieces of new work, most large in scale, making the bizarre imagery even more powerful.
