Streets: Deih // North West Walls (Belgium)

Recently during the Rock Werchter Festival of Belgium, Deih was invited to paint some stacked metal storage containers for the North West Walls event. Working well with the unique painting surface, the Spanish street artist chose to create some of his signature otherworldly comic-inspired imagery with an upside down character. He further explains his piece – “We, humans, only can watch at Cosmos’ face trapped by our limit´s perception. We will follow trying to understand it although I think we are not able to think […]

It’s been quite some time since our last Streets World Roundup feature so now’s as good a time as ever to review some of the street art around the world that you may have missed in the last few months. Leading things off is a mural entitled Trumpty Dumpty that Ron English (featured) recently painted with the help of the Bushwick Collective, Mana Urban Arts, and Jonathan LeVine Gallery that make his political views clear. Streets: Rustam Qbic (Ravenna)

Moving a lot around Europe lately, Rustam Qbic recently visited the Italian city of Ravenna where he painted his contribution to the Subsidenze Street Art Festival. Working three long days in the warm Italian sun, the Kazan artist quickly finished this new piece titled Immigration. Measuring 15m x 5m, this wall is a nice example of the symbolic surrealistic images that Qbic has been painting around the globe. Matching his color palette with the tones of the surrounding buildings, this dreamy mural beautifully blends with its surrounding. Depicting a […]

Streets: Cinta Vidal x Uriginal (Barcelona)

After seeing her wall mural painted for Guzzo Club in Barcelona, we have wondered how Cinta Vidal’s work would translate to the streets. With her recent series of experimental pieces with her friend Uriginal on the streets of her hometown, fans of her work now have an idea. The collaboration blends in nicely Vidal’s law of physics defying architectural imagery with Uriginal’s portraiture. Also, for those in the SoCal, Vidal will be painting a wall for the upcoming Vitality & Verve: In the Third Dimension show at the Long […]

Releases: Liu Bolin – “Hidden in the City: the Louvre Pyramid (with JR)” Print

In May, we shared with you the amazing takeover by JR (interviewed) at the famous Louvre in Paris where he pasted over the iconic pyramid using photographs of the surrounding structures. Looking at the right angle, it appeared that the pyramid in the main courtyard “disappears” from sight. Who better to collaborate with next in an inception-like project than with China’s disappearing man – Liu Bolin? With both the French and Chinese artist painted over, the two friends (see 2012 collaboration) blended in with the already camoflauged pyramid behind them. This intriguing […]

Studios Visits: Mike Dargas @ Opera Gallery (London)

We recently visited the studio of painter Mike Dargas as he prepares for his upcoming solo show at Opera Gallery in London from 6 – 20 July (curated by Jean-David Malat). Born in 1983 in Cologne, he started drawing and making paintings with oil paint from a very young age. In his early twenties, the German artist built himself a solid reputation in the tattoo scene and won numerous prizes and awards. Drawing his inspiration from masters like Dali, Caravaggio and HR Giger, Dargas studied various techniques […]
