Streets: World Roundup (Oct 15 – Oct 21)

We lead off this week’s review of street art with a new mural from Roa in Puerto Rico. Painted for the Los Muros Hablan Festival, the Belgium-based muralist rendered a giant Iguana (an invasive pest there, chewing up plants and crops and burrowing under roads and dikes) holding a Coquí, a small frog endemic to the island. Other notable walls this week come courtesy of Augustine Kofie – Italy (source), Aryz – Peurto Rico (source), Case – Germany (source), Escif – Croatia & Spain, Gaia – Philadelphia, Sam3 […]

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). Rewind: May 14 – May 20

For our video summary this weekend, our featured piece is entitled A Brief History of John Baldessari. The humorous yet informative video follows a give and take session between the conceptual artist and narrator Tom Waits. The footage includes topics like how Baldessari cremated everything he ever made, his height, and his love affair with dots, his film still collection, how “he will not make any more boring art,” among other zany discussion points. Other notable videos this week… JR, a year after his TED […]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

It’s been a long while since the last Instagram Roundup from the streets of East London here on AM, so we thought it was about time we gathered some photos of what’s been happening over the last five months.  A favourite is definitely this great wall from Sweet Toof and Paul Insect, some wonderful painting by Conor Harrington, another visit from Sheffield artist Phlegm and new stabby women paste ups by Kid Acne and plenty more. There really is too much to talk about here, […]

Streets: G40 – Aryz, ROA, Jaz, Pixel Pancho, Gaia (Part 1)

It looks like the G40 Art Summit in Richmond, Virginia that we mentioned earlier has kicked off with murals going up at multiple locations around town. Starting things off were Aryz with a massive still-life, ROA with a bird and arrow, Jaz with six lions, Pixel Pancho with two walls in his signature robotic style, and Gaia with his hands and dove. We’ll be bringing you more as the artists plan to get up more than once and as more participants arrive. More photos after the […]

Streets: World Roundup (March 19 – March 25)

Another weekend, another Streets: World Roundup here on AM. The highlighted mural this time comes from Tahrir Square in Egypt where Sheikh Khan painted one of the barriers that the Egyptian military erected to divide the streets that connect to government power centers. This wall, which was painted to look as if it was never there is one of many that the young artists in the area have painted over (story via Hyperallergic). Other street work that caught out eyes this week include Vhils (Luxembourg), […]
