Here is a “Tiger Rabbit” piece he put up in Seoul and in his words “the hybrid of the Tiger and Rabbit signifies the annual transition in the Korean calendar. Furthermore, these archetypal symbols of aggression and submission address the hierarchy of japanese colonization and contemporary korean identity. AM UK recently attended the bustling evening that was the London launch of Patrick Nguyen & Stuart Mackenzie’s “Beyond The Street” book, hosted at Phillips de Pury. Haven’t heard from Gaia in while ever since hanging out a little at Art Basel Miami last year, but it looks like he’s participating in two shows in the next couple weeks. First up is a solo at Gallery Heist opening tomorrow night in SF (of which there are some preview pics after the jump). A new piece from Gaia recently went up around North Ave and Pennsylvania in Baltimore. Continuing his biblical-themed series of work, “St John” appears to combine a variant of his “Deny Me Three Times” rooster with the beheaded John the Baptist (not sure how Peter’s denial of Jesus relates to the beheading of Jesus’ cousin, but we’ll ask Gaia the next time we see him).
