Releases: Vandalog Limited Editioned Shirts (Gaia, Faro & Troy Lovegates)

Our friend RJ at Vandalog has been working on this project all summer and we’re happy to announce that his project is now in full bloom. Tapping into some of his favorite street artists, RJ has created a very limited edition (less than 40) screenprint shirts to launch his new Vandalog clothing label. Being all about the artist, you won’t see the Vandalog logo anywhere, instead you’ll find all artwork dead and center. To start off, the three artist involved are Gaia (ed. of 37), […]

Teaser: “Street/Studio 2.0” @ Irvine Contemporary

For street artists, location has always been as important, if not more so, than the artwork itself. The site informs the conception – and perception – of the work down to it’s very core. On November 6th, Irvine Contemporary will explore this unique relationship with a group of artists that have been bringing the street into the studio for years. With such street art legends as José Parlá, Shepard Fairey, SWOON, James Marshall (Dalek), David Ellis, Romon Yang (Rostarr) and Gaia, Street/Studio 2.0 will spotlight […]

Openings: Electric Windows

Is that Ron English’s Ronald McDonald and camouflaged deer peeking out at us?  It’s just some of the sights seen at this year’s “Electric Windows”, an annual art and music festival that has already going on three years.  This year’s rendition officially opened last weekend in Beacon, New York with about 30 artists travelling to the small town about an hour north of New York City to do some live painting as well as hopefully bring some life and a fresh look some targeted buildings […]

Streets: Gaia in Korea

Our friend Gaia is currently in Korea working on some new projects.  Here is a “Tiger Rabbit” piece he put up in Seoul and in his words “the hybrid of the Tiger and Rabbit signifies the annual transition in the Korean calendar. Furthermore, these archetypal symbols of aggression and submission address the hierarchy of japanese colonization and contemporary korean identity. Situated in Hongdae, the center of Seoul’s fashion and nightlife, the neighborhood is the confluence of traditional Korean culture and American influence.” A video and […]

Preview: “The Next Generation” Group Show @ London Miles Gallery

The largely USA based new contemporary art movement continues it’s assault on the UK next week with “The Next Generation” opening Friday June 11th at London Miles Gallery. Curated by Culver City’s Thinkspace Gallery director, Andrew Hosner, the exhibition promises new work from 45 artists, all presented in a common format of 12 square inches. Continuing the charge recently begun with “Art from the New World” in Bristol, this time the art comes to heart of the action in London itself. For many of the […]

Openings: “Beyond the Street” NY Book Launch @ Deitch Projects

Imagine the days of high school where it’s the last week of school before summer hits and everyone is saying their goodbyes while signing each other’s yearbooks. That was the scene as AM attended the last public event at the legendary Deitch Projects and as expected, it was a blast! Set to the background of Shepard Fairey’s intense “May Day” exhibition, the book launch for Gestalten’s “Beyond the Street: The 100 Leading Figures in Urban Art”, by Patrick Nguyen and Stuart Mackenzie, drew a veritable […]

“Beyond the Street” NY book launch @ Deitch Projects

AM UK recently attended the bustling evening that was the London launch of Patrick Nguyen & Stuart Mackenzie’s “Beyond The Street” book, hosted at Phillips de Pury. The level of support for the book came over extremely positively in the number of people that attended the event. Now, New York gets it’s turn as the stateside launch party is to be held next Thursday 27th May at Deitch Projects. Bring your copy of the book along or grab a copy at a discounted rate at […]

Releases / Giveaway: VNA Issue 11

Pretty much every show or event we attend, we bump into a group of regulars out showing their support. The VNA crew are no exception to this. We just recently picked up a copy of the brand new edition of VNA – Issue 11 – which features Insa, Case, Gaia and Mike Giant amongst others. This issue builds upon VNA’s already amazing collection of current street art, graffiti, paste up’s and sticker action, but this time adds more features and interviews. Issue 11 definitely deserves […]

Update: Gaia

Haven’t heard from Gaia in while ever since hanging out a little at Art Basel Miami last year, but it looks like he’s participating in two shows in the next couple weeks. First up is a solo at Gallery Heist opening tomorrow night in SF (of which there are some preview pics after the jump). Then, on May 23rd, he’ll be part of the Axis Alley Project in Baltimore for which he put up this sick mural of his “Deny Him Three Times” image – it blends […]

Streets: Gaia – “St John”

A new piece from Gaia recently went up around North Ave and Pennsylvania in Baltimore. Continuing his biblical-themed series of work, “St John” appears to combine a variant of his “Deny Me Three Times” rooster with the beheaded John the Baptist (not sure how Peter’s denial of Jesus relates to the beheading of Jesus’ cousin, but we’ll ask Gaia the next time we see him). We have been anticipating this going up as we’ve seen him working on this piece on his flickr for a […]
