Showing: Javier Calleja – “Fake is the future” @ Galerie Zink

Currently with Galerie Zink in Hamburg (Barlach Halle K), Javier Calleja has a show on view entitled Fake is the future. Including canvases, works on paper and mural paintings from the Spanish artist, the solo features cartoonish portraiture certainly inspired from his time working under the tutelage of Yoshitomo Nara. Open to the public for a few days only, the exhibition sees Calleja put in some time adding spheres of colors to the walls that match up with the backgrounds of his paintings, visually merging them with the space. Previews: Javier Calleja – “Fake is the future” @ Galerie Zink

On August 16th, Javier Calleja will be opening a new show at Galerie Zink in Hamburg entitled Fake is the future. The fresh work from the Spanish artist, who apprenticed with Yoshitomo Nara, evokes a similar aesthetic his own version of cartoonish wide eyed children. Featuring 10 new artworks ranging from canvasses, works on paper, and mural paintings the exhibition promises to be an immersive experience challenging attendees to ask “if the reality we perceive is truthful or otherwise, manipulated and disguised.” Discuss Javier Calleja here.

Previews: Katrin Fridriks – “New Wave” @ Circle Culture Gallery

To close a successful year, Katrin Fridriks is about to open a new solo with Circle Culture Gallery at their space in Hamburg on November 6th. From the preview photos and info we just received from the Icelandic artist’s worshop, New Wave looks like a coherent show of exclusively square shaped canvases focused on the law of gravity. Previews: Jonathan Yeo – “Exposure” @ Circle Culture Gallery

Opening on the 10th of July, Exposure will be Jonathan Yeo’s second show with Circle Culture Gallery and the first time he is showing works in Hamburg. The exhibition will primarily consist of his infamous Leaf Works, created using the artist’s distinctive form of pornographic collage. Yeo started the this series in 2008, displaying them in New York and Los Angeles, but this show will be the first, and possibly the last time these pieces are shown together as a coherent body of work. Streets: Nychos (Hamburg)

Street muralist Nychos recently completed a striking new piece in Hamburg for the Knotenpunkt 14 urban art festival, organized and curated by Affenfaust Gallery. Dissecting a black widow in his usual style, the Austrian artist kicked off the event by getting up on the wall of a four-story building in the Gängeviertel. On September 6th, Feinkunst Krüger will be opening an exhibition from Heiko Müller, his first solo with the Hamburg gallery since he started showing with them in 2003. Glades will feature the German artist’s nature-infused paintings, a byproduct his inspiration for art always originating from his times spent in the mountains and forests.
