Currently in Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square, Ai Weiwei’s Forever Bicycles installation is on display 24 hours a day until October 27th. The piece consisting of 3,144 bicycles is in town for the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, an annual celebration of contemporary art in the largest city of Canada. Lazarides and The Vinyl Factory, joined their forces to bring an exceptional group show to art lovers at the peak of London art week. The Popular Workshop in San Francisco opened The Fall, a solo show by Francesco Igory Deiana on the 27th of September. The Italian born artist created a new body of work continuing and evolving his imagery and concepts. At the end of last month, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) unveiled a major installation and show at one of Hong Kong’s busiest thoroughfares – Time Square. Presented by LeBasse Projects, the project featured two large heads, recognizably from the LA-based artist’s imagery, as well as other surrounding Submerged sculptures. Openings: Gary Baseman – “Mythical Homeland” @ Shulamit Gallery

Over the weekend, the Shulamit Gallery in Venice, California opened their doors to Gary Baseman’s (interviewed) Mythical Homeland. Dominating the showspace was a birch forest installation that had photographs, drawings, and paintings hung throughout which references the experiences the LA-based artist’s father went through as a freedom fighter hiding from the Nazis (also illustrated in a recent music video with Die Antwoord). The 2013 British Ceramics Biennial which opened in Stoke-on-Trent on 28 September, celebrates the best in contemporary ceramics through a six-week programme of exhibitions, installations and events. One of the installations, Take Stock by Lawrence Epps, has been created from 12,000 ceramic office workers, which visitors to the biennial will be invited to take away with them. Fans in the Los Angeles area who missed Gary Baseman (interviewed) and his monumental show (covered) at the Skirball Cultural Center earlier this year now have a chance to redeem themselves. Tonight (October 5th) in Venice, California, Baseman will be opening another solo show at the Shulamit Gallery entitled Mythical Homeland. Hush For TAO Downtown (New York)

Over the weekend, TAO held a monster party to launch their new location at the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea, their second New York location. Over the course of four weeks leading up to the grand opening, the UK-based Hush’s (interviewed) was asked to create multiple large-scale installations for the mega-clubrestaurant, essentially guiding the design of the interiors thematically with is his east meats west urban aesthetic and the geisha girls that have populated his works of late.
