Releases: Nuart Festival 2016 Box Set

In collaboration with Nuart Gallery (former Reed Projects), Nuart Festival has released an exclusive series of signed limited edition prints to support this year’s event. The box set consists of a total of 14 prints measuring 12” (30 x 30cm), one from each of this year’s participating artists. Each box set consists of 6 gicleé and 8 hand-pulled screen prints, giving a chance for collectors to own part of Nuart history while helping to fund the festival. Nuart ’16 / Openings: “Post-Street Art” @ Tou Scene

After days of preparation, the central event of each year’s Nuart Festival was held on Saturday, the 10th of September. On view was a group show by participating artists titled Post-Street Art was in the tunnels of Tou Scene. Like in the past, the space of the former brewery was divided between the artists, some sharing the rooms with collaborative installations and some showing works by themselves. Streets: Nuart 2016 (Part II)

With only one day left for artists to finish their works for this year’s Nuart Festival, a lot murals and smaller pieces are getting completed as we’re writing this. One of the events that marked the official opening of this year’s Nuart Festival on the 8th of September was the opening of Jeff Gillette’s solo show at Nuart Gallery. For Dismayland Nord, the Detroit-based artist brought his iconic “dismayland” imagery to the idyllic city of Stavanger in Norway. As it was his first Scandinavian solo, Gillette prepared a brand new body of work for the exhibition. Previews: Jeff Gillette – “Post Dismal” @ Lawrence Alkin Gallery

Ten months since Dismaland (covered) opened its doors to the public, the artist that inspired the whole project, Jeff Gillette, will be opening his first UK solo show on June 24 at Lawrence Alkin Gallery. Post Dismal will include 15 new paintings continuing the post-apocalyptic imagery that juxtaposes Disney images with scenes of slums, despair, and ruin. Back in the 1990s, Gillette got inspired by the German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer, and his pessimist views. LA Art Show ’16: Recap

Last week, the LA Art Show was in town for another go around bringing in more than 120 galleries representing 22 countries. The 2016 edition was the 21st iteration of the fair, but third year for a special section of the event entitled Littletopia (see 2014, 2015).
