Releases: JR Print

French photographer and artist JR will be releasing a new lithograph print via Social-Animals.net on Tuesday, the 9th of December. The lithograph was produced at Idem Studio in Paris, and features one of the images taken during his recent Women Are Heroes project in Port of Le Havre, France (covered). Building on his successful collaboration with the NYC ballet earlier this year (covered), the print shows a ballerina sitting in a stack of iron containers. Charlotte Ranson, from the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris, featured on this image, […]

BIBO Restaurant (Hong Kong)

The staff here at AM are always on the lookout for restaurants that can pleasure our tastebuds as well as allows us to appreciate art at the same time. Like other establishments we have featured in the past, BIBO on Hollywood Road in Hong Kong will be on our shortlist of places to visit because of their design choices. Put together as a collaboration between BIBO & Substance, this beautiful space features work by the likes of KAWS, JR, Zevs, Invader, Shepard Fairey, D*Face, and more. With this stunning result, the French […]

JR – “Women Are Heroes” Container Ship

Over the weekend, JR (interviewed) launched a pretty special project from Port of Le Havre, France – a 365 meter long container ship, the CMA CGM MAGELLAN, pasted with his iconic eye motif. Working on over 151 containers, the French artist used them as pixels to recreate the eyes of Elizabeth, a Kenyan woman living in the Kibera slums, in Nairobi from his Women Are Heroes series of works. The vessel leaving the port will mark the end of this series that he started in 2007 (see below) and […]

Openings: JR – “The Close Up” @ Magda Danysz (Shanghai)

During AM‘s recent trip we stopped by the streets of Shanghai to participate in the phenomenon that is the Inside / Out photobooth truck. Next to follow that up, we stopped by Magda Danysz to catch JR’s (interviewed) latest show. Entitled The Close Up, this exhibition marks the return of the French artist to the gallery’s Shanghai location after four years (see the first show here). The works range from his grand photographs taken from projects around the world to his wood impressions to his haunting eye pieces […]

Showing: JR Installation @ Panthéon (Paris)

It looks like the Inside / Out message from JR (interviewed) isn’t stopping anytime soon. We had just finished enjoying the street intervention in Shanghai ourselves (also see Time Square, Japan, Los Angeles & London, just to name of few) and now the French artist is back in his hometown for a massive installation at the Panthéon. Blending contemporary art, in this case JR’s photographs of people all from all over the world, with classical architecture always creates an intriguing combination (i.e.: KAWS at the PAFA & Murakami at Versailles). […]

Streets: JR – “Inside Out: Shanghai” @ Xin Tian Di

JR’s (interviewed) has been very busy the past few weeks setting up a museum exhibition, gallery show and bringing his signature Inside / Out truck to China. This trifecta of projects in Shanghai marks the French photograffeur’s return to China’s mega-metropolis after nearly four years (previous visit). AM attended this latest installment of the artist’s Inside Out global journey (the project has already traveled to Time Square, Japan, Los Angeles & London, just to name a few). Now, JR has wheeled his interactive photo booth truck into Shanghai’s Xin […]

Streets: JR (Germany)

Earlier this month, we shared some shots of work from artist JR (interviewed) from his solo at Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden, Germany. Not surprisingly, while there, the French “photograffeur” spent time on the streets working on new pieces to share with the public. Continuing the concepts of his UNFRAMED project, he visited residents in the area and chose some of their photos to paste up, exploring the city’s history as the link between Germany and France.
