This Thursday (September 13th), Conor Harrington (interviewed) will be opening a solo show in London entitled The Story of Us and Them. Consisting of 12 new works, the exhibition to be hosted by HENI Gallery sees the Irish artist explore the fine line between tribalism and patriotism. Working with with two combatants wrapped in blue and red flags from a fictional nation state, the UK-based artist uses the pair’s struggles to reference the political climates seen in many parts of the world in these times of strife. Just closing over the weekend in London, BRD SHT from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) filled Lazinc with clever sculptural works that mirror his public interventions. Dran opened a new pop-up exhibition in London over the weekend entitled Dessin du Jour. As the title suggests, the body of work is dominated by approximately 120 drawings which the artist has been executing on a daily basis in preparation for the show. The pieces individually distill down the small victories and defeats, dreams and doubts and joys and sorrows of everyday life. Starting a few days ago, passerbys of some of London’s ITV buildings were treated to an unsettling sight if their eyes lifted to the sky. What appeared to be 84 men, standing on the edge the rooftops as if about to jump, were installed by Mark Jenkins (interviewed) and collaborator Sandra Fernandez as part of a campaign being run by the Campaign against Living Miserably, or CALM. Following up on their show in 2014 (covered), the Miaz Brothers recently opened up their solo with Lazarides at their new Mayfair home, Lazinc Sackville. Entitled Anonymous, the 16 paintings on display are a continuation of the Italian duo’s Antimatter series, comprised of the out of focus portraits (and one sculpture) that they have become famous for. The haunting large-format canvases are created using a meticulous layering of spray paint and feature more experimental and bolder brush strokes this go around. Openings: Takashi Murakami & Virgil Abloh – ‘Future History’ @ Gagosian (London)

Coinciding with London Fashion Week 2018, Superflat master Japanese artist Takashi Murakami continued his collaboration (covered) with American creative designer Virgil Abloh and presented a series of joint works entitled Future History at the Gagosian Gallery in London. The exhibition runs until April 7th and features large-scale paintings, sculptures and an installation drawing references to Abloh’s signature Off-White motifs alongside Murakami’s iconic cast of anime characters, reflecting incisively on the signs of the current times.
