Previews: “Out Of Line” @ Subliminal Projects

On April 8th, Subliminal Projects will be opening a new group exhibition entitled Out Of Line featuring the work of Aaron Li-Hill, Guno Park (seen above), Mark Powell, and Von. The show participants were chosen for using primarily graphite, pen, and ink as their medium of choice, but also explores how they have expanded on traditional concepts of drawing. Previews: “Made in California” @ Arcadia Contemporary

On Saturday night (April 2nd), Arcadia Contemporary will be opening their inaugural exhibition at its new home in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station Arts Complex after 16 years in New York. The group show entitled Made in California will feature work from their artists that reside in the “Golden State” including John Brosio (seen above), Michael Chapman, Jeremy Lipking, Julio Reyes, John Wentz, Aron Wiesenfeld, and Vincent Xeus.

Previews: Amy Sol – “Garden Garmine” @ Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday night, April 2nd, Amy Sol (interviewed) will opening her solo at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Entitled Garden Gamine, the set of new pieces continue to show her love for nature with flora and fauna surrounding her female characters. The delicate works feature the Nevada-based artist’s experimentations with oils in a full set of paintings for the first time. Showing: “Hawaii SWIM 5.0″ @ New Image Art

Less than one year after their debut show SWIM 1 (covered), curators Yarrow Slaps from San Francisco and Auguste Somers of Los Angeles opened the next edition of their successful group show on March 18th. Hawaii SWIM 5.0 will be staying on view at New Image Art until April 9th. This showcase includes paintings, drawings and photos from a diverse lineup of 33 vibrant contemporary artists. Street: Herakut (Los Angeles)

Leading up to the opening of their solo show this weekend at Corey Helford Gallery, Herakut painted a new mural featuring their signature mix of photorealistic and abstract elements. The new piece on the side of the gallery was painted next something Ron English put up and you can definitely see that what they chose to paint was partially in reaction to that. Showing: Ryan McGinness – “#metadata” @ Kohn Gallery

Last weekend in Los Angeles, Kohn Gallery hosted the opening of Ryan McGinness second solo with them with a new body of work entitled #metadata. With this new showing, the New York-based artist presented a interesting installation featuring his distance imagery as well as two new series of works –  Studio Views and Screen Combines. Showing: Eric Yahnker – “Noah’s Yacht” @ Zevitas Marcus

Last weekend, Zevitas Marcus in Los Angeles hosted the opening of a new solo show from Eric Yahnker. Noah’s Yacht features works created from colored pencils and graphite on paper, rendered with the locally-based artist’s continued clever commentary on issues that afflict our society today touching on topics like the current election cycle and police violence. Rounding out the show are various sculptural works, installations, and conceptual pieces all showing his versatility and knowledge of pop culture and the social-political climate, often times intermixing the two. Previews – Quam Odunsi – “HOLLYWOOD” – The Art Of Elysium

Curated by one of our own here at AM, Khoi Nguyen, a one-night only exhibition from photographer Quam Odunsi will open on March 31st in Los Angeles (3278 Wilshire Blvd). Entitled Hollywood, the show is presented by The Art of Elysium with proceeds to benefit the nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. Preview: “Cat Art Show 2” @ Think Tank Gallery

From March 24-27, shortly after closing their cake-themed installation and special programing (covered), Think Tank Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting the sequel group exhibition to 2014’s Cat Art Show. Over 70 artists including Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, C215, Adam Wallacavage, Tim Biskup, Kozyndan, Luke Chueh, Brandi Milne, Natalia Fabia, Travis Lampe, Cyrcle., Jean Pierre Arboleda (seen above) and Edwin Ushiro will be contributing pieces inspired by their feline friends. Openings: “PDFW” @ Slow Culture

Last month Slow Culture moved from LA’s Highland Park to Chinatown, and on March 4th, they opened the PDFW: Performance. Drawing. Film.
