Openings: Linnea Strid – “Love Me When I’m Gone” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last month, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City kicked off the new art year with Linnea Strid as one of the featured artists. Love Me When I’m Gone filled the project room space with the Swedish artist’s hyperrealistic paintings, portraiture accented by the subjects interaction with water whether that be submerged or enjoying a shower. LA Art Show ’16: Recap

Last week, the LA Art Show was in town for another go around bringing in more than 120 galleries representing 22 countries. The 2016 edition was the 21st iteration of the fair, but third year for a special section of the event entitled Littletopia (see 2014, 2015). Previews: Eric Joyner – “Sweet Dominion” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On February 20th, robots and donuts will be making their appearance in scores at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. They are of course the favorite subjects of Eric Joyner’s (interviewed) whimsical paintings and will be again for his new body of work entitled Sweet Dominion. Openings: Shag – “Jungle Drums” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last week in Los Angeles, Shag (interviewed) brought a little retro chic to the new Corey Helford Gallery location with his latest solo entitled Jungle Drums. Along with his signature paintings featuring a nostalgic look back when mod characters hung out sipping martinis, the downtown LA showspace also featured tiki sculptures, a mid-century decor, as well as a large wall covered with his imagery. Upcoming: Amy Sol – “Garden Gamine” @ Thinkspace Gallery

The last solo we had the opportunity of attending from Amy Sol (interviewed) in Los Angeles was back in 2013 (covered), so it was nice to hear she will be presenting some new works at Thinkspace Gallery soon. Entitled Garden Gamine, the set of fresh paintings will continue the Nevada-based artist’s series of delicate portraitures featuring her feminine subjects and their animal friends. An example of this can be seen above, but plan to be there for the opening on April 2nd to seen the rest. Discuss Amy Sol here.

Previews: “Conjoined 666” @ Copro Gallery

Tonight (January 16th) in Los Angeles, another Conjoined show opens (see 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011) at Copro Gallery with this one dubbed “666” for good measure. Curated by Chet Zar as usual, the sculptural group exhibition features “classic sculptures, hyperreal life like models, surreal assemblages, mixed media paintings, and other conjoined works.” Fans of the dark arts should stop by tonight and bring $6 for the entry fee. Cyrcle. // LA Kings @ Continental Grand Plaza

As part of a project with Branded Arts, art duo Cyrcle. (featured) recently installed two large pieces at the Continental Grand Plaza. Situated inside the corporate headquarters of the Los Angeles Kings in El Segundo, the two works are a striking works of art that welcome visitors into the building.
