This Saturday (January 16th), the Corey Helford Gallery will be opening the Asymmetrical Diptych group show. The title says it all – 26 artists will be creating two piece works meant to be displayed together but in an asymmetrical arrangement or shape. Currently at The Huntington in Los Angeles, a selection of works from Alex Israel has been inserted throughout the the historic institution’s European art collection. The intriguing mix of new and old brings to mind exhibitions in the past like KAWS at the PAFA or like the turns Koons, Murakami, and Kapoor took at Versailles. Set to open January 9th at Mark Moore Gallery, Hoof will be Allison Schulnik’s fourth solo with the Culver City-based showspace. After debuting their new space in Chinatown earlier this month with a show from Ron English (c0vered), Corey Helford Gallery will be following it up with an exhibition from another strong artist on their roster – Shag. Jungle Drums is a collection of brand new paintings and sculptures from the American artist that will feature his signature retro chic imagery. Working hard over the holidays, Andrew Schoultz brought some cheer recently to old Chinatown in Los Angeles with a new mural. Painted on the side of the Gregorio Escalante Gallery, the new piece features the all seeing eye that is commonly seen in the locally-based artist’s imagery among other signature motifs. Streets: Etam Cru (LA)

After a successful sold out Los Angeles debut show with Thinkspace Gallery (covered), Sainer & Bezt aka Etam Cru rounded up their visit to the Southland with another signature, bigger than life mural. Produced by Thinkspace Gallery and Branded Arts, the new piece from the Polish duo is entitled Mr. Rooster and is located on the corner of 8th and Wall in the downtown Flower District. Openings: Etam Cru – “Galimatias” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday, Thinkspace Gallery opened the long awaited LA debut of the Polish street art duo, Etam Cru. Entitled Galimatias, the new body of work from Bezt & Sainer consists of canvas, linen, wood and paper pieces painted with acrylic, graphite, ink, and spraypaint. A full house and an abundance of red dots proved the anticipation of this show was well deserved. Upcoming: Audrey Kawasaki // VNA 32 Release Party @ Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday night (6-9 pm), VNA Magazine will be holding a release party at Thinkspace for the limited edition boxset for issue #32 with the cover going to Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). Each screen-printed set comes complete with a screen-printed sleeve, enamel badge and signed mini giclée print. Stamped and numbered in an edition of 150, these will be offered at the Culver City showspace at the event but also some will be held back for an online drop at a later date. Openings: Ron English – “NeoNature” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Over the weekend, Corey Helford Gallery christened their new space in Downtown LA with a solo from Ron English (featured) that has been two years in the making. Entitled NeoNature, the new body of work features an imaginative menagerie of strange creatures and different evolutionary paths mixed in with some pop culture references.
