Openings: Billy Norrby – “The Stone Like” @ CHG Circa

On the same night as Ron English’s solo at Corey Helford, their sister gallery several doors down, CHG Circa also hosted an opening reception. The Stone Like featured the paintings of Billy Norrby, rendered in a style reminiscent of the master works from the Romanticism movement. Openings: Ron English – “Popogandastan” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last Saturday night, fans of Ron English (featured) packed the opening of his newest show at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, eager to see a new body of work that has been two years in the making. Popogandastan featured pieces that explored the gifted painter’s incredibly detailed world, filled with his surreal cast of characters and lush backgrounds. Patrick Martinez Installation @ El Tapatio Market (Bell Gardens)

A couple days ago, the El Tapatio Market in Bell Gardens, California hosted a unique showing from Patrick Martinez. For one day only, the Los Angeles-based artist installed works from his repertoire including his signature neon signs in the supermarket. Blending in with the products offered by the store, the project provided an interesting juxtaposition of art and everyday life for random shoppers and art lovers alike. This Saturday night, October 26th, Billy Norrby will be opening his exhibition at CHG Circa entitled The Stone Like. For his first solo with the gallery, the New York-painter brings a new series of work that explores the “state between gradual petrification and hopeful rejuvenation.” His characters often appear to be in deep contemplation, on the precipice of some important decision hanging in the balance. Openings: Beyond Eden 2013

Last weekend, the fourth Beyond Eden art fair opened its doors at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. Great crowds of art lovers showed up to support the various galleries (Thinkspace, C.A.V.E Gallery, Copro Gallery, and Spoke Art) and the artists represented. Some highlights were as special presentation recognizing Greg Escalante’s contributions to the LA art scene, the first showing of Chet Zar’s Ego Death project, as well as the Bird’s Eye View and Wild At Heart II group exhibitions. On October 26th, the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City will be opening a new show from Ron English (featured) entitled Popagandastan. Presenting a new series of surreal paintings, the exhibition re-introduces Angelenos to some of his signature characters such as the neurotic Ronnnie Rabbbit, Combrats, Snappers, Wolves, Sheep, Quacks, Buddha Burgers, and of course Cowgirls. Openings: Kukula – The Adventures Of Raspberry Finn” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last month, The Adventures Of Raspberry Finn opened at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City featuring new paintings from Kukula. Taking inspirations from various sources like famous fictional characters and the fashion of Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko, the LA-based artist created new renderings of her sultry female characters. Openings: Gary Baseman – “Mythical Homeland” @ Shulamit Gallery

Over the weekend, the Shulamit Gallery in Venice, California opened their doors to Gary Baseman’s (interviewed) Mythical Homeland. Dominating the showspace was a birch forest installation that had photographs, drawings, and paintings hung throughout which references the experiences the LA-based artist’s father went through as a freedom fighter hiding from the Nazis (also illustrated in a recent music video with Die Antwoord).
