On September 7th, nasty Neck Face (interviewed) returns to West Hollywood (see 2012) for a showing at New Image Art. No Mercy For The Weak features new paintings and limited editions from the provocative artist featuring his demon portraits and “extensive study and research” of bar room practices. Coming up next at the Corey Helford Gallery is a solo show from Kukula entitled The Adventures Of Raspberry Finn. Opening on September 14th, the exhibition will feature new paintings that draw their inspiration from characters such as Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, but with a twist. Streets: Cleon Peterson (Los Angeles)

Last weekend, Cleon Peterson took on a large scale mural in downtown Los Angeles. Coming off a great summer exhibition across the pond at London’s The Outsiders’ Soho gallery, Cleon kept his acerbic and raw edge as he composed a hard hitting piece featuring his signature “Brinksmen.” Created over the span of two days, the wall was painted with a bloody looking color scheme making it a fresh eye-catcher for the people of LA. This Saturday night, the last day of August, the C.A.V.E Gallery in Venice, California will be opening a new show from Tom French (featured). Featuring a series of paintings that followup the skull paintings we enjoy so much, the new faces the UK-based artist has been working on also have more depth than meets the eye on first glance. Over the weekend, Brazilian artist Nunca finally finished a mural he has been working on all week in the heart of Los Angeles for the TARFEST Music and Art Festival. The massive piece (arranged by Merry Karnowsky Gallery & Launch Gallery) features imagery quite appropriate for the location with a series of paparazzi figures painted in the street artist’s distinctive style. The mobile photo units have been traveling the US (and the world) of late, spreading the French photographer and street artist’s Inside Out love. Showing through the end of the month at M+B in Los Angeles is the Tim Barber curated Apparatus group exhibition. Last Saturday, painter Sean Mahan presented new work collectively entitled Invisible Threads in the project room of the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. The new series of graphite and acrylic on wood pieces mainly depict portraits of children and their sewing machines, which each evoke a nostalgic feel to them.
