Streets: Hush (Los Angeles)

Last we heard, Hush (interviewed) was in Melbourne for a solo showing in May of 2012 (covered). Fast forward a year and this time he will be opening an exhibition tomorrow night at the Corey Helford Gallery. While here, he just finished a mural at the Branded Arts Building featuring his East meets West urban aesthetic. Wonderful Land marks David Benjamin Sherry’s second solo exhibition at OHWOW and features photographs from the American Western and Southwestern states, taken with a large format, handmade, analog wooden film camera over the course of several months. Oakland based artist, Brendan Monroe (interviewed), is opening an exhibition at Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica on May 18. After having solos in Switzerland, France, and Canada, this will be Monroe’s first show in the LA area in a long time (see 2009). Over the weekend, artist David Flores finished a new mural at the new creative campus named “The Reserve L.A.” which is the new home of the Microsoft and TMZ offices. This artistic project for The Reserve is part of several murals that Branded Arts was brought in to organize and curate. It was a night to remember. Last week, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles opened its doors to an extensive survey of Gary Baseman’s career and life entitled The Door Is Always Open. Friends, family, fellow artists, collectors, admirers, and well wishers alike attended to show their respects to the pervasive artist and his illustrious accomplishments. Meggs for The Hundreds

If you remember, Australian artist Meggs was in town for a solo exhibition currently showing in Los Angeles at the Thinkspace Gallery (covered). While here, he also was asked to paint a mural at The Hundreds warehouse complex (also see Stephen Harrington). The piece features a skull in hand rendered in his signature comic-inspired style.
